Charlie's knowledge, warmth, and care for his students nurtures a self-belief that is key in this business. He teaches actors to work from themselves, assuring us that we have everything we'll ever need to play any character, already inside of us--we simply must find ourselves in the character. Each one of his classes offers actors the rare opportunity to focus on a vital aspect of the business, preparing actors for everything they'll encounter. As an actor, Charlie understands the daily struggle this business brings, and stresses the significance of being 'consistent and persistent', educating actors on both craft and business --- a flawless combination.

Greetings!

Continuing with our series on "The Twelve Commandments of Auditioning"
VI. Thou Shalt Avoid Using Props or Costumes and Miming
Most casting directors feel that relying on props or costumes marks you as an amateur. If you're supposed to be on the phone, just hold your hand up to your ear. A pen can double as a knife. Your sides or a finger work fine as a gun. An audition isn't about external "stuff."  It's about creating a believable character and just about delivering your lines as realistically as possible."  Sometimes an actor can really go overboard with props. I went to an audition once where an actor who was auditioning for a couple of lines as a waiter actually came in wearing a tux and carrying a tray full of glasses.  That's just setting yourself up for disaster.  What if he dropped it during the audition?  And you definitely don't want to take in weapons whether they are real or fake.  Pulling out a gun just isn't a very smart thing to do.  Every casting director, it seems, has a story like this, from Jeff Greenberg: "An actor I won't name once held a real knife to my throat at an audition. Don't do that."  Another thing, you can mime a phone or a TV remote or a gun, but avoid miming things like eating or drinking.  It just looks silly and embarrasses the casting director, and destroys any illusion of reality you may have created.
Okay, that's it for now.
Next time, The Seventh Commandment of Auditioning - "Thou Shalt Pay Attention To Personal Hygene."

Chadwick got his start back in the day of our fondly remembered "Star Trek: Enterprise".  He's mostly gone the movie route since then, working with many offices over the years and now has branched out on his own to produce and cast his projects he wants to do.  He is always on the look-out for great talent, especially producing the way he does.

BIOGRAPHY:  Chadwick casts voice-over, television, theater, & film. He started off in a fast paced office primarily covering episodic television, television pilots, voice-over for video games, and feature films.

*In 1999 Chadwick help cast at the Center Theatre Group of Los Angeles (Mark Taper Forum & Ahmanson Theatre).

Notable projects while working there:
1999 Shakespeare Rep directed by Sir Peter Hall, "Hughie" starring Al Pacino
"Enigma Variations" starring Donald Sutherland

Neil Simon's "The Dinner Party"

Chadwick's start into feature film casting (as a Casting Associate) began with
"Herbie: Fully Loaded"
"Just Friends"

"The Heartbreak Kid"

(1st Feature Film Casting Director credit in 2003) "MINI'S FIRST TIME" (Tribeca Film Festival) a Kevin Spacey produced film that starred Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson, Nikki Reed, Jeff Goldblum, Carrie Anne Moss.

This led to a 2nd Spacey produced project "COLUMBUS DAY" starring Val Kilmer & Wilmer Valderrama.

Chadwick cast and co-produced "Getting That Girl" which premiered on Sunday, October 23rd, 2011, at the Arclight Cinemas Hollywood.

Other 2011 Projects for Chadwick include :

A fight is brewin' at mom's house. Austin is on the brink of something big. He has secured a Hollywood deal for his latest film script. Lee is a bum: a free agent. He's got nothing to his name except a six pack and a criminal record. They're brothers but they are as different as day and night. In this deliciously dark play of duality, Sam Shepard takes a long, hard look at America, from the romanticized West to the tranquility of picket-fenced suburbia.
