Mosaic Acting Academy
Auditions, Announcements and More for
November 29, 2011

Greetings!
Just a couple of days until Christmas . . . Whatever holiday you celebrate, I hope it is filled with joy for you and yours.  Then  it's just a few more days until we start a brand new year.  That few days after Christmas is a good time for reflection and planning.  What went well in 2011?  What do you hope improves?  We all have  hopes and wishes, but do we really have  goals.?
Charlie
During the last several years of his life I had the pleasure of working closely with my dear friend and former business partner Jeremy Whelan to develop what has become Mosaic Acting.
Jeremy was an interesting guy, a teacher, writer, actor, director, and more, and I want to pass on one of the very good lessons I learned from him. We "creative types" tend lack in some other areas, such as organizational skills. Even though I'm pretty well disciplined (when you are self employed you also have to be self motivated) and have known the value of planning and goal setting, I've never really consistently written those things down. Every night before he went to bed, Jeremy wrote himself a timetable of what he wanted to accomplish the next day. At the end of the day he also wrote down what he had done, and tried to access the reasons he had not done the things he had failed to do. He didn't beat him self up for not getting it done, he just tried to figure out why, then added it to the next day's list. As actors we're in business for ourselves. We have to "open the store" every day, and keep working on what will make us better and more successful at what we do. Set yourself some written goals for what you want to accomplish this year. Promise yourself to get a bit better each day. Practice cold reading, get a good professionally done headshot, improve your grammar, take a class (hint, hint) to improve your skills. Each evening sit down and make a list of the five most important things you have to do tomorrow. Then number them in their order of importance, and when you get up tomorrow, go to work on number one, and keep at it until you've got it done, then go to number two. That way you'll always be working on the most important thing. Try it and see what happens - and remember Jeremy when it works.
Break a leg, and I'll catch you again next issue.

About Choosing a Class . . . .

Although tuition for Charlie's classes at the Mosaic Acting Studio is very reasonable,  when deciding whom you want to study with there are a lot more things to consider than just the price.   The first thing to do is look up the instructor on IMDb.com.  That will tell you what they have actually done.   Do their credits consist of a couple of independent films that they wrote and/or directed?  Have they only been in "kid shows" on Nickelodeon or Disney?  Is their background only in theater?  I want to work with someone who has worked with major directors and has appeared with "A list" actors. There is a reason why Charlie Holliday has been voted Sacramento's Outstanding Training Resource for Actors time after time.

Learn from someone who has appeared in more than three dozen National Commercials! Nothing in show business, including movies, costs more money to make, minute for minute, than a national commercial. And nothing pays better! Members of the Screen Actors Guild earn more each year from commercials than from movies and television combined. This class will cover all the aspects of the commercial audition, from getting the call from the agent or casting director, to the right headshot, copy analysis, working with cue cards, the call-back, and more.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
Tuition: $250. This very popular class is open to students 12 years old and up, so to ensure a space register now. You can call the Sutter Street Theater at 916-353-1001 or Charlie 916-361-0952.

Wayne is a regular with us. He is ALWAYS LOOKING to MEET NEW ACTORS as he has been acting as more of a talent scout and casting assistant these past few years. He's been in the biz for about 11 years total.
He's worked on many projects with Anne and has now decided to finally bite the bullet and be an associate with her! GO WAYNE!

He is one of the most giving CD's I've met. He will sit one on one with each of you for a scheduled time slot for Sunday. Early sign up gets you first pick of times to meet him for your individual session! He's a GREAT CONNECTION to have.

Past projects included lots of comedy like "Wild Hogs", "Old Dogs", "Fanboys", "John Tucker Must Die" and "Stan Helsing".
