Uta Hagen

A CHALLENGE FOR THE ACTOR -
THE "UTA" CLASS

Thursday Evenings from 7:00PM - 10:00PM
August 16 - September 15

This challenging course is based on the "Ten Objective Exercises" described by Uta Hagen in her wonderful books "Respect for Acting" and "A Challenge for the Actor". It is recommended you start reading "A Challenge for the Actor" prior to starting the class. This wonderful class is only is offered once per year, or as interest demands. The exercises deal with developing the actor's physical destination in a role, recreating physical sensations, finding occupation while waiting, and other exercises to help the actor recreate truthful behavior on stage or before the camera. To be accepted for this class you must have completed a MOSAIC ACTING or Alpha Character Technique class, or Charlie must be acquainted with your work or other training as an actor.  Preregistration required, and the class will be held if a minimum of eight students enroll. A maximum of ten students will be accepted.

Tuition for this 10 week course is $400.  Preregistration required, so send your minimum $200 deposit to: Charlie Holliday, Box 1142, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742-1141, or click here to register with your credit card or PayPal account (3% service charge.) Or by phone at 916-361-0952.
Here's what a former student has to say about the "UTA" class . . .
Let me add a former student testimonial Re: Uta Hagen Class.

"Listen up those of you who are considering taking Charlie's Uta Hagen Class.

Don't let this opportunity slip by. I took this series of classes some years ago and I still remember every session, my exercises and those of my class mates.  Every evening was exciting because you got to play a role that you created for yourself. You wrote it, costumed it, brought your own props and performed your own material. This is a student driven class.  Not a lecture in the series.  You prepare, you act, it's observed and then analyzed.  And by analyzed, surely know that Charlie is not Simon Cowell!

Also, each week you prepare your own exercises and whatever lines are needed are your own. A great deal is silent action in a scenario that you create.
As I recall. after each evening I was so stoked driving home with ideas for the next week I couldn't wait to get started.
Again, get on board with this, you'll love it and I hope Charlie invites me to a session. Even shows you a wacky piece . . . he loved!"

I recently made the switch to working in the Sac/SF area to the LA scene. I had taken classes from local teachers and had gotten tons of feeback about what to expect and strategies to use when I got to LA. However, with one exception, the advice that I got from people up here were just plain WRONG! Perhaps they have worked in this business in the past, but in the acting business (just like any technology) changes happen fast.
The one exception was Charlie Holliday. It pays to get advice from an actor with so much recent experience in Hollywood. All of his advice turned out to be right on the money.  LA is a big and expensive move to make. Save yourself time, money and frustration by taking Charlie's classes. He's a pro and a wealth of information. He'll give you good, solid, up-to-date information that you can use.  -  Heather Pier
