Greetings! | As most of you may know, I just finished a very successful run of a play. Our reviews were very good, but on of the main characters, a wonderful actress was not even mentioned in one review! Naturally, she felt a bit of disappointment. Since usually about all we get for doing a play is our name in a review, it really stings when we don't get a mention. It's true that sometimes reviews get cut for lack of space - not that knowing that makes us feel any better - but that's just the way it is. The only reason to act is for the joy of doing it. If you expect fair play, if you expect to get what you deserve, if you expect to get the role because you are the most talented, if you expect a great review because you did a great job, then be prepared for a lot of disappointment and frustration. It's even worse in movies. You've finally been cast, done a good job on the role, and then find out you've been cut! Some of my best work is in the garbage can at some studio; not because it wasn't good, but because the film was too long, or there was a technical problem, or any of a dozen other reasons over which I have no control. It's just the way it is. The only choice I have, the only control I have, is how I deal with it. I can focus on being angry, frustrated, or hurt by things over which I have no control, or I can focus on why I really am an actor . . . the joy of acting. I always tell my students "If there's anything else you can do and be happy, do that instead." But if you have that hole in your soul that only acting can fill, then go for it! Do it for the joy of doing it. My real job as an actor isn't to impress the audience or reviewers, but to affect the others on stage or in front of the camera with me. My task is not to reach out to the audience, but to create such a reality as my character on stage or on the screen that I suck the audience into my world. If I do that I will touch the lives of the audience. For us to have that joy in our work, that has to be enough, and guess what . . . we'll probably get some great revues along the way! But now, a word from our sponsors, and some news. Charlie |

THE MOSAIC ACTING SYSTEM
"Emotionology and the Whelan Recording Technique"
WEEKEND INTENSIVE
SATURDAY, APRIL 2 AND SUNDAY APRIL 3
9:00 am - 6:00 pm
MOSAIC ACTING ACADEMY
Rancho Cordova
(directions on receipt of deposit)
I've been acting and directing for over forty years, and I've never found anything as easy and effective, or as much fun to work with as The MOSAIC ACTING SYSTEM. (www.mosaicacting.com) It is the only acting system in the world that takes advantage of the fantastic advances made in general education through the application of a Learning Styles paradigm. I've taught and trained instructors in London, Toronto, and cities in the USA, as well as presenting Mosaic Acting to schools and teachers from middle-school to the University level, including the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The Whelan Recording Technique is the perfect Whole Brain teaching/learning technique. Character, relationship, emotional base and line memorization are achieved with ease and speed never before experienced. It's also the most fun an actor can have! While emotions are the very core of the actors art, there has never been a program until EMOTIONOLOGY that provided the tools for actors to study them in an objective and systematic fashion. MAS provides that and more. REGISTRATION INFORMATION: This class is appropriate for High School age and above, and actors at all levels of experience. Tuition is $350 and includes a copy of "Mosaic Acting System" ($50 discount if you have the book) (Prior Mosaic students may repeat for $200, space permitting.) Pre-registration required and only 12 students will be accepted. Directors and credentialed teachers may attend as non-working observers for $200. (Includes book.) To register now with your credit card or PayPal Account click here. Or you may register by phone at 916-361-0952 or send your minimum deposit check for $200 to: Charlie Holliday, P.O. Box 1142, Rancho Cordova, CA 95741-1142 ****************************** Visit www.charlieactor.com for more class schedules.

About choosing a class . . .
Although tuition for Charlie's classes at the Mosaic Acting studio is very reasonable, when deciding whom you want to study with there are a lot more things to consider than just the price. The first thing I do is look up the instructor on IMDb.com. That will tell me what they have actually done. Do their credits consist of a couple of independent films that they wrote and/or directed? Have they only been in "kid shows" on Nickelodeon or Disney? Is their background only in theater? I want to work with someone who has worked with major directors and has appeared with "A list" actors. There is a reason why Charlie Holliday has been voted Sacramento's Outstanding Training Resource for Actors time after time.

Three New Shows Open At Sutter Street Theatre
Opening March 18 -- Nunsense
Winner of four Outer Circle Critics Awards including Best Off Broadway Musical in it's original New York production. The show is a fund raiser put on by the Little Sisters of Hoboken to raise money to bury Sisters accidently poisened by the convent cook, Sister Julis (Child of God). This zany musical is a hit wherever it plays.
Friday & Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 4:00pm
Opening March 26 -- Noodle Doodle Box
Noodle Doodle Box is a delightfully absurd play for young children. It is about two clowns, Zacharias and Pepper, who are constantly squabbling, both verbally and physically. Then along comes the mysterious Drum Major, a trickster who makes the clowns re-evaluate their friendship. Lessons about authority and relationships are portrayed with wacky slapstick comedy that appeals to young children - and will delight all ages!
Saturday at 4:00pm
Opening April 2 -- 13 The Musical
When his parents get divorced and Evan Goldman is forced to move from New York to a small town in Indiana, he just wants to make friends and survive the school year; easier said than done. The star quarterback is threatening to ruin his life and his only friend, Patrice, won't talk to him. The school freak sees an opportunity for blackmail and someone is spreading the nastiest rumors.
13 is a show that deals with issues readily familiar to high school students. Hilarious and high-energy. 13 teaches valuable lessons about growing pains and what exactly it means to be "cool." Whether it be freaks, geeks or dealing with divorce, the show is relevant to high school students everywhere.
Saturday & Sunday at 1:00pm -- Recommended for 10 years old and older.
Tickets may be purchased on-line
or by phone at (916) 353-1001.

From a Mosaic Acting Academy Student and Working Actress ...
|
I recently made the switch to
working in the Sac/SF area to the LA scene. I had taken classes from
local teachers and had gotten tons of feeback about what to expect and
strategies to use when I got to LA. However, with one exception, the
advice that I got from people up here were just plain WRONG! Perhaps
they have worked in this business in the past, but in the acting
business (just like any technology) changes happen fast. The
one exception was Charlie Holliday. It pays to get advice from an actor
with so much recent experience in Hollywood. All of his advice turned
out to be right on the money. LA is a big and expensive move to make.
Save yourself time, money and frustration by taking Charlie's classes.
He's a pro and a wealth of information. He'll give you good, solid,
up-to-date information that you can use. - Heather Pier

People have been asking where to get the MOSAIC ACTING clothing articles with the beautifully embroidered logo I've been wearing - polo shirts, long sleeved Tees, hats, jackets, etc. I get them from a company called Queensboro. If you'd like to order something, go to the Queensboro web site and check them out. When you find what you want, email the
article number and color selection and size you want to me and I'll put
together an order as soon as four of you give me payment for the
items. (I'll pay the shipping charges for you.) You can mix and match
items, and there's no minimum order for you. Give me a call or email
if you have any questions. Thanks, Charlie |
