Casting Alert - Latino / Mixed Families

Is your family the craziest one on the block? Do you often find yourself in bizarre or hilarious situations with your siblings and parents? Are one or both of your parents remarried or about to get remarried outside of your cultural heritage?

MTV is looking for a funny and entertaining family who can show us insight into the Latino perspective of life, but with a twist. We are looking for large families (3 or more siblings between the ages of 10-25) whose parent (s)) have remarried, or are about to get remarried, outside of their Latino heritage. We want the family to be a well connected one who love each other and like to have fun with one another.

If this sounds like your family, please send an email to [email protected] with a picture of your entire family, names of all family members, your location, contact information and a brief paragraph explaining your family dynamic and why you fit the description above!

Big News From the Sac Film & Music Fest

We're changing our format from a single, 10-day long Festival in the Summer to two shorter Festivals in the Winter and Summer: Our new Sacramento Film & Music Festival WINTERFEST and SUMMERFEST!

The new approach allows us to maintain our programming capacity and better allow audiences and filmmakers to attend an entire event, from beginning to end, rather than just seeing a portion of a longer 10-day lineup. We think that's a lot more rewarding and we hope you agree.

We'll start off the new pattern during the January holiday weekend; January 15th-17th, 2011. See you there!

For filmmakers: The Sacramento Film & Music Festival WINTERFEST call for submissions is active on WITHOUTABOX and we have multiple deadlines that run through November 29th, 2010.

Dexterity
a comedy in two acts

Friday and Saturday nights November 5 through December 18; Sunday matinees at 2 pm November 21 and December 5.

Jerry is a literary agent who has taken an option on a new novel. If he can't make a deal with a Hollywood producer to pick up the option, he is out of a job. The producer, Gordon, asked Jerry to show him an authentic New England Christmas, so Jerry rented a farmhouse in Connecticut. Jerry's wife isn't happy about rearranging her life for the holidays but she's doing her best to make things go well by bringing in part-time help to cook. Complicating matters is Dexter, homeless man Jerry brings home from the train station.

Dexter's personalities range from a barely verbal derelict who may be hearing voices to a seemingly well-educated, erudite and romantic assistant (who may suffer from narcolepsy). When the producer and his wife arrive early, Jerry and his wife provide a plausible explanation for Dexter's presence. When Dexter discovers that the producer isn't what he seems, information is supplied that appears to ruin the deal and Jerry's career. The cook thinks there's something familiar about Dexter and doubts he's really a homeless person, but a relationship begins to develop between them that adds both confusion and zest.

Barnyard Theatre Seeks New Plays for Summer 2011 and on

Barnyard Theatre is a northern California-based theatre company that produces new plays. Every summer we transform a working barn into a non-traditional theatre space for a mainstage production. We also hold the Nights of New Plays Festival, which includes readings, stagings, and workshops during the dark nights.

We're looking for new plays. (Oh, and for more information about the company, go to www.barnyardtheatre.org)

Priority Deadline: October 25

We're first looking for plays for Summer 2011; if you would like your play to be considered for the upcoming mainstage, make sure you send it to us by October 25. These plays will also be first in line for the Nights of New Play Festival.

Plays and proposals submitted after October 25 will still be considered for the Nights of New Plays Festival and future mainstage productions. Ideally the play selected for our 2012 mainstage will be part of the 2011 Nights of New Plays Festival.

Playwrights for the mainstage will receive a 100$ honorarium.

NOTE: We're looking for plays to fit a much larger season as well.

What We're Looking For: Pretty much anything. Serious dramas, comedies, musicals, short plays, each of these have taken a turn on the mainstage. The plays we're attracted to jump from the page and beg to be produced. We've developed something of an aesthetic over the years, so we encourage you to look at the pictures of our previous productions. We're not afraid of technical challenges.

We love a good, ambitious story with crisp, intelligent writing. Above all else, we're looking for plays that will trigger some creative impulse in us. We want to give the audience a unique experience.

Production history: we'd prefer that the plays submitted have only had non-professional productions before Barnyard. College or university productions are fine -- send those plays along.

NOTE FOR 2010 -- This year we're looking for something fun. Of course, "something fun" has many meaning. If you make us cry, that's cool too.

Submit to  [email protected]

Questions? Email Brian at  [email protected]  or [email protected]

Submission Guidelines: - Make sure to include your full name, email address, and phone number in the body of the email. - Please make sure that title of the document includes both the play's title and your last name (example: "My Avisia Winger -- Oglesby"). This makes things much easier. - We prefer the document be in .doc, .rtf, or .pdf - A short synopsis in the body of the email would be very helpful. Not required, but helpful. - We'd also like it if you could also answer the following question: How did you learn about us? - Any production history. - Feel free to include a short bio if you'd like to introduce yourself. Again, not required, but it helps us get to know you.

Please Note: By submitting to Barnyard Theatre, you assert that the materials are original, and that proof of right(s), if applicable, are attached with the script. You also grant Barnyard Theatre the right to distribute the script to Barnyard Theatre members for the purpose of consideration for inclusion in the season.

From a Mosaic Acting Academy Student and Working Actress ...
Heather Pier
I recently made the switch to working in the Sac/SF area to the LA scene. I had taken classes from local teachers and had gotten tons of feeback about what to expect and strategies to use when I got to LA. However, with one exception, the advice that I got from people up here were just plain WRONG! Perhaps they have worked in this business in the past, but in the acting business (just like any technology) changes happen fast.
The one exception was Charlie Holliday. It pays to get advice from an actor with so much recent experience in Hollywood. All of his advice turned out to be right on the money.  LA is a big and expensive move to make. Save yourself time, money and frustration by taking Charlie's classes. He's a pro and a wealth of information. He'll give you good, solid, up-to-date information that you can use.  -  Heather Pier
