Greetings!
|
I'm going to tell you a secret . . . Want to know how I've won the audition with such famed directors as Francis Ford Coppola, Tim Burton, and Clint Eastwood, for 28 movies, 17 TV shows and more than 3 dozen National and Regional commercials? Because I'm a good cold reader and most importantly, I'm a good listener. In my classes I sometimes tell a story about having the joy of eating lunch with one of my heroes, Alan Alda, when I was working on Mad City. He said there should be 2 signs on every set and in the wings of every theater; one that says "What do I want?" and the other "Listen . . . and how does what the other person says change me?" That's the key; allowing what the other person says affect you. Unfortunately most actors we audition at Media Casting Group are so worried about getting every word right and how they're going to say their lines that we don't see much except the tops of their heads and their eyelids as they read along with the reader. Instead of doing that, make eye contact with the reader and truly listen to what the other character is saying. How does what they say affect you? When you do that subtle changes happen in your face. You don't have to do any "acting," just really, truly listen. Try it and watch what happens to your "win" percentages. Oh, and it might not be a bad idea to get into my next cold reading class! I hope I've been some help, Charlie
But now a word from our sponsors . . .

New Classes Scheduled at the Mosaic Acting Academy
| THE *MOSAIC ACTING ACADEMY Voted Sacramento's Outstanding Training Resource for Actors
PRESENTS
"ALPHA COLD-READING TECHNIQUE"
SATURDAYS FROM 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM JUNE 15 - JULY 10 (No class July 3rd.)
It's Simple . . . Good Cold-Readers get the job! There are two skills and actor must learn in order to work in movies and TV - Cold Reading and Improvisation. Unlike Theater auditions, which often request monologues, Movie and TV auditions don't generally use prepared memorized material. In this class you will learn a technique of the Mosaic Acting System that allows you to use the subjective mind to quickly create a character with depth and substance, rather than just trying to "learn the words". These same tools can then be used to create a character for Screen, Stage or any type of performance. As the class progresses, we cover cold reading and audition techniques, as well as scene and monologue work. As the class size is limited to a minimum of 8 and maximum of 12 new students, pre-registration by the Monday before the class is required. This class will be presented on four consecutive Saturdays from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Tuition is $300, and includes an audio CD. (Repeat fee for prior students $200)
To register, send your minimum $150 deposit to: Charlie Holliday, PO Box 1142, Rancho Cordova, CA 95741-1142, or to register with your Credit Card or PayPal account click here click here or call Charlie at 916-361-0952 ++++++++++++

PLAYWRIGHTS COLLABORATIVE MEETINGS AT THE BIG
IDEA THEATRE: At the Sunday, May 23, workshop, Ron Tochterman's "Someone You Know is Guilty" (formerly known as "Rough Justice") will be read and discussed. The play's themes are implied in its title: How can a criminal defense attorney represent someone he knows is guilty? And everyone's guilty of something. An observant Jew struggles to reconcile his religious values with what's expected of him as a criminal defense attorney.
Monthly meetings will be held at 7:00 PM at the Big Idea Theatre, 1616 Del Paso Blvd. There
are no dues, fees or other charges for participating.
We thank the Big Idea Theatre for hosting the
Playwrights Collaborative workshops. From
Business 80, travel west on Arden Way. Turn right on Del Paso to the
theater which is a short distance and in the same complex as Fran's Cafe
and the Supper Club, across Del Paso and a little east of KFC. A
Supper Club sign is prominent from Del Paso Blvd. Also, a vertical sign
that says GREENS. [email protected] ++++++++++++

From a Mosaic Acting Academy Student and Working Actress ...
|
I recently made the switch to
working in the Sac/SF area to the LA scene. I had taken classes from
local teachers and had gotten tons of feeback about what to expect and
strategies to use when I got to LA. However, with one exception, the
advice that I got from people up here were just plain WRONG! Perhaps
they have worked in this business in the past, but in the acting
business (just like any technology) changes happen fast. The
one exception was Charlie Holliday. It pays to get advice from an actor
with so much recent experience in Hollywood. All of his advice turned
out to be right on the money. LA is a big and expensive move to make.
Save yourself time, money and frustration by taking Charlie's classes.
He's a pro and a wealth of information. He'll give you good, solid,
up-to-date information that you can use. - Heather Pier

Mosaic Acting "Gear"
is now available!

People have been asking where to get the MOSAIC ACTING clothing articles with the beautifully embroidered logo I've been wearing - polo shirts, long sleeved Tees, hats, jackets, etc. I get them from a company called Queensboro. If you'd like to order something, go to the Queensboro web site and check them out. When you find what you want, email the
article number and color selection and size you want to me and I'll put
together an order as soon as four of you give me payment for the
items. (I'll pay the shipping charges for you.) You can mix and match
items, and there's no minimum order for you. Give me a call or email
if you have any questions. Thanks, Charlie |
