Create Now is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996. Our mission is to transform the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth through creative arts mentoring, education, resources and opportunities. The organization serves kids who have been abused, neglected, abandoned and orphaned, are left homeless, runaways, teen parents, victims of domestic violence, children of prisoners, substance abusers, gang members or incarcerated. In the past sixteen years, we've reached over 28,000 of these vulnerable kids through our unique arts mentoring and cultural programs and services.

New TEACH Initiative

Shishonia's ClassCreate Now's new initiative TEACH (Teach Evolutionary Arts for Children's Hearts) provides innovative arts education in schools to prevent violence before it starts.

Classes are customized to meet the needs of educational institutions, just like a menu where one can select from a variety of workshops that are made-to-order. We can mix and match our projects to make the classes resonate with students and teachers based on their budgets and needs. All of our programs follow California Content Standards and are adapted for each grade level.

Roger at MacLayOur secondary school programs include at least one class in vocational training. Students also receive the Create Now Job Directory, which lists around 50 employment agencies that hire youth.

If you would like additional information about TEACH, please contact our Executive Director Jill Gurr at (213) 747-2777 x 210.

Foster Boys Learn Essential Life Skills

Estevan Chantes 1

Estevan Chantes is a Real Estate Broker with Coldwell Banker George Realty in Arcadia and he wanted to mentor youth.

Create Now matched him close to his town with Leroy Haynes Group Home in La Verne where he recently completed teaching a five-week Life Skills workshop.

Estevan mentored four teenage foster boys at the group home in the basics about business, including how to manage a bank account, buy stocks and start their own companies. At the end of the program, one of his mentees said, "This workshop has shown me that there is more to life than what I know. There are different things in this world that I can do."

We're delighted that as these foster youth age out of the foster care system when they turn 18, they will have some new skills to help them navigate their lives.
