Create Now is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996. Our mission is to transform the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth through creative arts mentoring, education, resources and opportunities. The organization serves kids who have been abused, neglected, abandoned and orphaned, are left homeless, runaways, teen parents, victims of domestic violence, children of prisoners, substance abusers, gang members or incarcerated. In the past sixteen years, we've reached over 28,000 of these vulnerable kids through our unique arts mentoring and cultural programs and services.
Come Rock With Us at the Cat and the Fiddle in Hollywood on January 19th

Create Now board member Mark Schulman is a drummer and part of an amazing group of top rock musicians and singers who perform with the greatest bands of all time, like P!nk, the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Rockers CollectiveRod Stewart, Pink Floyd, and many more. Called Rocker's Collective, they will be playing at the famous Cat and the Fiddle Restaurant and Pub in Hollywood this Thursday, January 19th starting at 9:00 pm. There is no cover charge, but your kind donations will help needy children. So come join us for a drink and a jam; give a little and get a lot as we rock out to some of the greatest music of all time played by phenomenal rock stars!

Special thanks to the Cat and the Fiddle for also hosting our Fourth Annual Vivian Campbell Dinner Party at their fabulous venue! 25 of Viv's biggest fans will get to have a delicious dinner and hang out with the lead guitarist of Def Leppard on February 11th. This event has helped raise essential funds for Create Now programs. We're especially grateful to Vivian for his continued support.

For His Contribution

Supervisor YaroslavskySupervisor Zev Yaroslavsky of the Third District has given Create Now a generous grant to buy equipment for our Take heArt visual arts and Sound Off music programs. Thanks to his support, we were able to purchase computer hardware and software, a portable PA system, cameras, musical instruments and much more. We greatly appreciate Supervisor Yaroslavsky's donation, which will help us bring more programs to troubled youth in the Third District.

Artistic Journeys in 2011 Reach            3,141 Youth

Create Now's most popular program is Artistic Journeys, where each year we bring thousands of the most needy children in the region to experience concerts, plays, circuses, museums and other fun cultural excursions.

Last year, more than 3,000 homeless and abused children enjoyed wonderful outings, like Cirque du Soleil's "Quidam," Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl.

Quidam
They also visited Ford Amphitheatre, Morgan-Wixson Theatre, Pasadena Playhouse, and many other premiere venues. Foster youth, children of prisoners and abandoned teenage mothers felt relief and inspiration while seeing "The Nutcracker" ballet and hearing opera for the first time. They loved "Snow White" and "The Ugly Duckling" at Theatre West, and also cheered on the L.A. Derby Dolls and the Chivas USA soccer team.

Many of the kids that Create Now serves are fearful of venturing out and trying new things. After these traumatized youth go on our Artistic Journeys, they are more open to new experiences.

We now include mentors in our Artistic Journeys program. Volunteers meet the youth at the venues, give them a brief orientation and teach theatre etiquette. Later, mentors collect the kids' feedback.

Blair Warner works as a Client Development Manager at McKinsey and Company. She mentored two groups of youth who attended shows at the Geffen Playhouse. Blair said, "Most of the adolescents had never had the opportunity to attend a play. I could tell how special it made them feel, and how excited they were about participating in the program. One youth told me that he wanted to work in theater himself one day."

Thanks to the readers of Oprah's "O" magazine. We greatly appreciate all of their donations for our Artistic Journeys program.
