Create Now is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996. Our mission is to transform the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth through creative arts mentoring, education, resources and opportunities. The organization serves kids who have been abused, neglected, abandoned and orphaned, are left homeless, runaways, teen parents, victims of domestic violence, children of prisoners, substance abusers, gang members or incarcerated. In the past fourteen years, we've reached over 25,000 of these vulnerable kids through our unique arts mentoring and cultural programs and services. |
KLOS DJ Cynthia Fox was on hand to record a video about our Vivian Campbell Dinner Party. Check it out!
 | | Cynthia Fox & Vivian Campbell | Vivian is such a wonderful person that he gave all the attendees the chance to buy two tickets for the bands' special seats, plus backstage passes.
Proceeds from this generous offer will benefit the troubled kids that we serve. We're very grateful to Vivian Campbell for helping Create Now to raise essential funds so that we can maintain our programs.
Thanks again to Finn McCool's Irish Pub for their support. |

Homeless Kids Show Off

Los Angeles is known as the "Homeless Capital of America," with 13,000 homeless children attending LAUSD schools. Studies show that homelessness lowers academic performances, reduces high school completion rates and puts children at risk of serious physical health problems.
Create Now has partnered with L.A. Family Housing (LAFH) to bring three of our Show Off performing arts workshops to some of the 120 children living at their shelter. Talented singer Shalayna Janelle is teaching a Singing Workshop.
Standup Comedian Daniel Rothenberg taught a Comedy Workshop and L.A. Clippers dancer Mandi Mettler is teaching a Hip Hop Dance Workshop. All of these projects will culminate with "The Transformers Talent Show" on April 15th when the kids will get to perform for the entire facility and some of our special guests, including HM British Consul-General Dame Barbara Hay.
9 year-old Rebecca said, "I have a nice teacher and I can't wait till the performance comes."
Christian Burell, a Program Coordinator at LAFH said, "Several children have come to these classes very shy and timid. Now they're so energetic, happy and peaceful. Their transition from the first day to this day is just incredible! The children will never forget these experiences." Read more |

Guitar Workshop Soothes Teen Substance Abusers
Substance abuse not only destroys families and lives, it's an economic drain. As many as 75% of people involved in the criminal justice system are addicted to or misuse alcohol and drugs. Our youth are in need of help, so Create Now has partnered with Phoenix House in Lake View Terrace to provide a Guitar Workshop taught by mentor Mike Mallen, who has played guitar since he was ten and was an opening act for Bruce Springsteen. Mike has toured nationally several times. Every Saturday afternoon, groups of girls, and then boys, gather with Mike to learn how to play guitars that Create Now has loaned out. They are instructed on the proper way to hold the instrument and how to strum chords. The kids love it! Earnest M. said, "It's awesome. Mike's a really good teacher. I wish he'd come more often!"
Katharine C. said, "The class has helped me find myself." Mike loves the workshop as much as the kids do. "Teaching these kids has been a very rewarding experience for me. I'm looking forward to continue helping give them definite goals that they can achieve." John Morabito, Music Director at Phoenix House, said, "Thanks to Create Now and their awareness of Phoenix House's needs, our kids have benefited immensely from their Graphic/ Web design and Job Readiness Workshops, Creative Writing Workshops, as well as Michael Mallen's Guitar Workshop." The Guitar Workshop is so popular that there is a waiting list of kids who want to get into the class. However, that means more guitars are needed. John Kuhns, a luthier and owner of American Timbre donated three custom-made electric guitars to Create Now, but we need more, including acoustic ones. If you have a guitar that you would like to donate, please contact us at (213) 747-2777 or send an email to: donations@createnow.org. Read more...

Vivian Campbell Dinner Party a Success!
Our Third Annual Vivian Campbell Dinner Party held on March 19th at Finn McCool's Irish Pub in Santa Monica was a big hit with everyone who attended. Viv hung out with everyone and signed their memorabilia, had photos taken and shared amazing stories about his experiences as the lead guitarist for Def Leppard and Thin Lizzy. Everyone got to talk privately with him and spend at least a half hour of quality time in small groups getting to know their favorite musician better. The food and service at Finn McCool's was awesome.
Here's what some of the fans had to say: "Vivian Campbell was an absolute joy last night. I have made some new friends and thanks to you, I am now the envy of my friends and family back home in England." - Rhonda Woodfine
"Happy! What a great dinner at Finn McCool's Irish Pub. What a nice guy Vivian Campbell is. What nice people his fans are. What a great organization Create Now is." - MaryBeth Powers
Everyone, including Viv, is looking forward to next year's event!
