Create Now is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996. Our mission is to transform the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth through creative arts mentoring, education, resources and opportunities. The organization serves kids who have been abused, neglected, abandoned and orphaned (foster youth), are left homeless, runaways, teen parents, victims of domestic violence, children of prisoners, substance abusers, gang members or incarcerated. In the past fourteen years, we've reached over 20,000 of these vulnerable kids through our unique arts mentoring and cultural programs and services.
South African Journey
Through Global Xchange

Five Acres ArtCreate Now is thrilled that we were one of five youth organizations in the U.S. selected by the British Council and Volunteer Service Organization (VSO) to participate in their Global Xchange program.Five Acres Art This is the first ever multilateral exchange program and the first time in 75 years that Americans have been included, so it's quite an honor!

to South Africa, Dr. Nicola Brewer

Our team of 26 GX participants bonded quickly. My counterpart Rafiki manages an orphanage with 130 boys in Rwanda. Our work assignment was with SCOPES, a Durban crew that helps hundreds of street kids, who are beaten and raped, struggling to survive while they become addicted to glue.

The GX team worked the last week to put together a wonderful community event called "Music Heals" at the Bat Centre, a very unique multi-media studio which was our home base.

 Arts Calm Down Teens

Amanda and GirlAmanda McDermott is an Art Director for two magazines. "I have had a strong interest in art all my life and wanted to share the benefits that come from self-expression through creativity."

We placed her as a mentor to teach "Introduction to Art" at Project Six, a facility for emotionally and mentally challenged teenagers. Amanda said, "Some of the arts projects have been fun and simple and others require patience, listening and concentration. Many of the teens are surprised by the things they can make and have discovered the endless possibilities that art has to offer!"

T-shirt at Project SixResidential Counselor José Castillo observed, "When the kids first come, they're rowdy and acting crazy. But as soon as we give instructions for the arts projects, they calm down."

Frankie, age 14 said "I put all my hard work into decorating my pot and I'm impressed with the art I made."

Vivian Campbell Dinner Party
at the famous Hollywood
Cat and the Fiddle Restaurant and Pub

Vivian Campbell dinner

Thanks again to Vivian for hosting this fabulous dinner party on Saturday, February 13th. There were 25 lucky fans who got to hang out with Viv and have their memorabilia signed. We also appreciate the support of the Cat and the Fiddle for donating their delicious food and drinks along with excellent service, and to Rick Gould for all the amazing photos and his generosity.
Thank you!

Thanks to you, Create Now programs prove that the arts can impact the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth in ways that other intervention programs cannot.

Working together, we are transforming lives through creative arts!

Sincerely,

The Create Now Team
