With much gratitude to our sponsors who made the Percussion Workshop possible:

Create Now is an independent, 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996. Our mission is to transform the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth through creative arts mentoring, education, resources and opportunities. The organization serves kids who have been abused, neglected, abandoned and orphaned (foster youth), are left homeless, runaways, teen parents, victims of domestic violence, children of prisoners, substance abusers, gang members or incarcerated. In the past thirteen years, we've reached over 19,000 of these vulnerable kids through our unique arts mentoring and cultural programs and services.

A Beat of Their Own
Children Thrive in Percussion Workshop

"I like to do music. I can bang a big drum."
- Delia, age 4

Smiling Boy with BongosCreate Now's mentor Anastasia  Nikiforova made an impact on children at Upward Bound House, a transitional living facility, with a World Percussion Workshop. As she describes below, the children thrived in the workshop, made possible by donations from Create Now supporters:

"Their eyes started sparkling. Then they all would get in the same pulse, the same rhythm, where everyone was together, contributing, feeling the music. There was a sense of togetherness in that creation."

Anastaia plays bongos"It was a great experience for me. I loved it!"
- Diana, age 10

"I liked EVERYTHING!"
- Jaleela, age 8

"It was so tight! I liked the bongo drums."
- Maleek, age 9

Thank You, Boeing!

Thnak you Boeing
We're very grateful to the Employees Community Fund of Boeing California for their generous support of our Write Now literacy program. Through their donation, we're able to provide our unique workshops in screenwriting, playwriting, journalism, poetry, and short stories. The youth we serve learn to master literacy skills in order to build self-esteem and effective communication strategies necessary for success. Create Now would also like to thank our champion Lynn Baidack, Project Manager at the Boeing Company.

Kidz Kreationz - With Help from Pink's Drummer, Mark Schulman
Song Recorded by Create Now Participant

Demond"I Can't Do This" is an original song by Demond Nelson. Listen to his MP3 by clicking on this link. We first met him three years ago when he was incarcerated at Camp Holton. After participating in a Create Now Drumming & Rap Music Workshop with Mark Schulman (Pink's drummer), Demond began to change his life. Since then, weMP3 helped him to perform his songs at several detention camps, where he motivated incarcerated youth to change their lives as he did. Demond has continued to stay out of trouble. He recorded this song at Mark's recording studio in Venice.

We are proud of Demond and the positive influence he is making in our community.

Thank you!

Thanks to you, Create Now programs prove that the arts can impact the lives of high-risk and at-risk youth in ways that other intervention programs cannot.

Working together, we are transforming lives through creative arts!

Sincerely,

The Create Now Team
