Greetings!
Spring is here and so is our upcoming benefit, LA Street Scenes 3: Everyone Has a Story. Please join us on Thursday, April 30th at Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica for an evening of theater, a silent and live auction with over 100 fantastic items to bid on, and the chance to raise essential funds so that Create Now can maintain our arts programs and reach thousands of high-risk and at-risk youth. This issue also highlights our recent Peace Mural project at MacLay Middle School, which is a huge success. With over 80,000 gang members in Los Angeles, mural projects teach children new skills, while providing an appreciation for art, not graffiti tagging. The kids at this school worked together to create a vision of peace in the community of Pacoima, which is one of the most gang-affected neighborhoods in L.A. County and is targeted by Mayor Villaraigosa as part of his GRYD (Gang Reduction and Youth Development) strategy. As you enjoy the rebirth of spring flowers, consider helping our troubled kids to also grow, by their ability to heal past traumas through self-expression in the arts. Support Create Now with a donation today.
Sincerely,

Jill Gurr Founder and Executive Director |

Create Now Youth Bring Their Stories to the Stage Create Now is gearing up for our third annual benefit performance, " LA Street Scenes 3: Everyone Has a Story." Taking place on April 30th at Edgemar Center for the Arts, this will be a compelling and powerful theatrical experience that depicts the true moments of those who live and die on L.A.'s streets. Based on actual events, the stage-play is constructed from original stories written by the young men and women who lived them.

Students Give Peace a Chance
It's estimated that there are 80,000 gang members in more than 1,000 gangs in Los Angeles. Through Create Now's Peace Mural program, we encourage vulnerable children to express themselves positively through the arts about their hope for peace in their community. Our latest mural at MacLay Middle School was a big success and the children were thrilled to see their work unveiled in front of their peers. Photo by USAID

Peace Mural at MacLay Middle School

Featured Sponsor - L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo
Thanks to City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo who gave us funding for the students at MacLay Middle School to create their Peace Mural by using a unique canvas technique that allows them to enhance their skills by drawing and painting in their classroom, then to later glue their finished artwork onto the wall. Through his generous support, our Peace Mural will be a lasting reminder for many generations to come.

And Now, a Word About Our Sponsors!
We couldn't begin to reach the thousands of children that we serve each year if it weren't for the generous, ongoing support of our sponsors. Visit our sponsors' pages at the Create Now web site to learn more about our gracious supporters.
