Hello Create Now! Enthusiasts!
Welcome from the Founder 2007 has proved to be a banner year for Create Now!
By the end of this year, we will reach over 4,000 high-risk and at-risk youth through our
different programs - a 20% increase from last year. Our mentor pool continues to grow and we count 127 youth facilities as partners - 53 more than last
year! Create Now! has also expanded its
prevention programs by joining with 16 LAUSD elementary, middle and
high schools and also charter schools to deter youth from getting into
trouble by exposing them to the arts.
We couldn't have done all of this without you, our supporters. Create Now!
is very grateful for your ongoing commitment and assistance in our efforts to serve 25,000 homeless kids in Los Angeles,
40,000 youth in gangs and 50,000
exposed to violence daily.
During the holiday season, we reflect on our accomplishments and ask that you consider making an end-of-the-year donation to Create Now!
so we can continue to impact these troubled children's lives
through creative arts mentoring, resources and opportunities. Our website makes it easy and safe to donate online. Or, to mail a monetary donation, send to: 2007 Wilshire Blvd., Suite #
919; Los Angeles, CA 90057-3588. Remember, donations are
tax-deductible.
Thank you for your continued support! And HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Seeing the World Through a Different Lens
by Maggie Power

Who would have thought that Oprah would ever really have an impact on my life? I was watching a special she did on mentoring children back in June. She teamed up with Essence Magazine to start a national mentoring movement. The goal was to recruit more than one million mentors. I felt like that was my calling and so my search for the perfect mentoring program began.

Our Latest Kidz Kreation

Create Now! is proud to present our newest video workshop and the completed work of three talented girls. "Supergirls and Zombie" was created by Isabel Mendoza, Andrea Caloca and Cecilia Caloca at L.A. Family Housing, a homeless shelter in North Hollywood.
Thanks go out to our volunteer mentor A.G. Melkom, who teaches filmmaking at UCLA Extension, for spearheading this project. She received support from actress Chioma Nwosu and Create Now!'s advanced filmmaking student Luis Perez. These girls now have DVDs of their project that they can share with family and friends, along with other goodies from the Wrap Party that Create Now! gave them to mark their achievements. |

Create Now! Thanks the Macy's West Foundation
Create Now! would like to share our delight in a new foundation partner, the Macy's West Foundation, which generously donated a grant of $10,000 for our Take heART! program. Thanks to their support, we'll be able to bring our arts programs to hundreds of the most troubled children and youth in our community. These kids will learn how to paint, draw, sculpt, design murals, create collages, as well as learn photography.
Partners for these art projects include Vista Del Mar, L.A. Family Housing, Dangerfield Group Home, children from the Harbor Gateway community at the 186th Street Elementary School and several other facilities where new programs are currently in development. The donation from Macy's West Foundation will be used to buy art supplies such as paper, brushes and other materials, in addition to gift bags with art materials and a Wrap Party at the conclusion of each program.
Create Now! greatly appreciates Macy's West Foundation for their support, which enables us to bring our creative arts mentoring programs to the most troubled kids in our community.
