Need to Know  
  • The Diocese offers congratulations to Anna Moncure, assistant secretary of the Diocese, for her new position at Hollins University as associate director of alumnae engagement. We will miss her very much! Her last day is October 9. We are pleased to announce that William Martin, a member of St. Mark's, Richmond, will be the new assistant to the secretary. Bill starts his new position on October 1. 
  • The Lay Compensation Reports have been updated for 2012.  These reports can be found online
Diocesan Events  
  • Join the Rt. Rev. Suheil Dawani, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, for an evening of listening, prayer and fellowship at St. Stephen's, Richmond on Friday, September 28 at 7 p.m. Bishop Goff will moderate a discussion as we learn how our dioceses might work together for peace and justice.
  • The Stewardship of Creation Conference is this Saturday, September 29 at St. Stephen's, Richmond. Conference speakers will include experts in public policy, preservation of agricultural land, water and energy resources, and challenges and opportunities to alleviate global food insecurity. Explore these issues and learn more about how we can respond as a church community.     
  • The Bishop's Fall Clergy Retreat will take place October 15-17 at Shrine Mont. Joining participants as speaker will be Suzanne Farnham, co-author of the book Keeping in Tune with God: Listening Hearts Discernment for Clergy. Learn more and register now!      
  • Have your youth and youth leaders signed up for 8th-Grade Weekend, October 5-7 at Shrine Mont?  
  • Registration is now open for the Treasurer's & Business Manager's Conference, October 25 at Christ Church, Spotsylvania. Participants will discuss lay pension plans, the denominational health plan, clergy payroll and more.
  • Do you run your church's food pantry, free clinic or other local outreach ministry? Or do you have a passion for international mission? Come and share at Mission & Outreach Day, November 3 at St. George's, Fredericksburg. RSVP to Ashley Cameron at acameron@thediocese.net.   
  • The Diocese of Virginia and Shrine Mont invite you to talk about the future of our camps. By coming together as a diocese, we provide a vital ministry for our children's formation. Thirty-seven priests and transitional deacons, in new positions within the Diocese, have begun the Fresh Start program.  They will gather monthly for two years for learning, mentoring and collegiality.

Spotlight on Parish Events

Performances from St. Paul's organist and choirmaster, F. Powell Johann Jr; the choir from St. John's, Tappahannock; and local musicians. September 30, 4 p.m.

St. Stephen's, Richmond will host Jon Meacham
in a conversation on God and politics. Pulitzer Prize-winning author and contributing editor at TIME, Jon Meacham is one of America's most prominent public intellectuals. Known as a skilled raconteur and an accomplished historian with a depth of knowledge about politics, religion and current affairs, he understands and analyzes how issues and events impact modern life. October 25, 7 p.m.

Northern Virginians can decorate and bake for a cause when purchasing pumpkins at either
St. Thomas', McLean (8991 Brood Road), St. Peter's in-the-Woods, Fairfax Station (5911 Fairview woods Drive) or Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill, Alexandria (3606 Seminary Road). The Pumpkin Patches will be open from October 6-31,  and all proceeds benefit local, national and international outreach efforts.
