Need to Know
  • If your church has not already done so, please submit your Certificate of Election for Delegates & Alternates and your Communicants in Good Standing Form to the Secretary's Office of the Diocese. These were due on April 1. Please note that each region must elect a youth delegate, as well. All forms are available on the Council Web site.
  • Governor McDonnell declared September 29, 2012 as a Day of Service in Virginia. The goal is to bring together interfaith groups and non-profits to fight hunger in Virginia. The day of service will bring together Virginia's food banks and citizens to collect food donations and help those in need. Churches or parishioners can submit "Day to Serve" events and find ways to help at daytoserve.org.
  • Where are churches in the Diocese traveling for mission trips this August? Check out this list of recently returned or current August trips and please keep these churches in your prayers. If your church's trip is not on this list or you have an upcoming trip in September, please contact Mary Anne Bryant (mabryant@thediocese.net) or Ashley Cameron (acameron@thediocese.net).  
  • Church musicians from the Diocese of Virginia recently returned from the "Everybody Sings" Cranbrook Consultation on Music and Liturgy. Learn about their experience.

  • Open Hearings for the 2013 Annual Council will take place on Saturday, January 12 at Christ Church, Glen Allen. Annual Council will take place January 24-26 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston. Save the dates!  
  • Bishop Goff will receive Natividad Menjivar as a priest in the Episcopal Church on Saturday, September 29 at 7 p.m. at St. Timothy's, Herndon. All are welcome to join in the celebration.

  • The Bishop's Fall Clergy Retreat will take place October 15-17 at Shrine Mont. Joining participants as speaker will be Suzanne Farnham, co-author of the book Keeping in Tune with God: Listening Hearts Discernment for Clergy. Learn more and register now!

  • Join Bishop Jones at Shrine Mont September 9 & 10 for some good food and golf at the 14th Tee with the Bishop Golf tournament.  Learn more and reserve your spot!

  •  Westminster Canterbury, Richmond invites clergy and lay congregational ministers to a seminary, "When Words Fail: Practical Ministry to Pepole with Dementia," September 27, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The seminary will highlight the physiological, emotional and spiritual effects of dementia. Celebrating the Past and the Future: 50 Years of Diocesan Camps at Shrine Mont

Since 1962, diocesan camps at Shrine Mont have grown from serving handfuls of campers to over 700 of God's children in 2011. This year, celebrate the 50th anniversary of the camps and take time to take a look at their next 50 years. 

In September and October, the people of the Diocese and friends of the camps will gather to talk about the camps of the future.  Plan to be a part of planning how the Diocese can best serve our campers at Shrine Mont by attending one of these events:
