Need to Know
- On February 3, the Nominating Committee announced a slate of six nominees for bishop suffragan in their Final Report. Nominations by petition will be received through February 13. Nominees will participate in a series of walkabouts around the Diocese March 19-23, when all members of the Diocese will have a chance to learn more about each of the nominees. Questions will not be received from the floor during these walkabouts, so if you have questions that you would like the nominees to consider, please submit them to suffragan_transition@thediocese.net no later than February 17. The election will take place on Saturday, April 21 at St. George's, Fredericksburg. Information on registration for the Electing Council is forthcoming.
- The 217th Council Web site now includes audio recordings of the bishops' addresses and reports, as well as a photo album of Council events.

Diocesan Events
- The annual ECW Lenten Quiet Day will take place March 29 at Roslyn Retreat Center under the theme "Blessed Are They Who See." The Rev. Canon Susan E. Goff will lead this session. Men and women alike are welcome to attend. Learn more and register.
- Registration is open for the PYM Spring Day of Service, March 17 at St. Andrew's, Arlington. Youth from across the Diocese are welcome to attend!
- The diocesan Disaster Preparedness & Response Ministry Team has planned a Volunteer Day on Saturday, February 25 at Aquia, Stafford. This is a chance to learn about volunteer opportunities in the disaster relief field from across the United States in 2012, and to receive the necessary information and training needed for such mission trips. 50 Years of Camps at Shrine Mont
In the last 50 years our diocesan camps at Shrine Mont have grown from serving a handful of children to over 700 of God's children in 2011.
Join us at one of these locations to talk about establishing a secure future for our camps for the next 50 years.

Diocesan Mission Trips
There are several mission trips from the Diocese of Virginia heading out around the world in the coming months.
Young Adult Trip to Haiti: This ministry is run by young adults aged 21 to 35. They will return to Gonaives, Haiti March 30-April 6 to work with their young adults counterparts to teach English (and learn Creole) and to participate in a construction project. Medical Mission to Haiti: This trip is scheduled for May 5-12. The team is seeking six to eight medical personnel of varying backgrounds and several general helper-types to run a week long clinic. For more information, contact Kent Duffey at kduffey@doers.org.
College Trip to Tanzania: A group of college students will travel to Tanzania in mid-May for a three week mission trip. They will visit the Diocese of Central Tanganyika, home to the Carpenter's Kids program. They'll be teaching English, rebuilding school classrooms and generally getting to know the wonderful people of Tanzania. There is still room on this trip, so contact Si Wofford at siwofford18@gmail.com if you are interested.
Holy Land Trip: The Diocese of Virginia will host Bishop Suheil of the Diocese of Jerusalem in late September. As his visit approaches, we will be putting together a diocesan delegation of parishioners, clergy and students that can continue to build relationships with similar groups from the Diocese of Jerusalem. - The Leadership Program for Musicians will host a spring workshop on March 10 around the theme of "Music that Makes Community," a movement in the Church that rekindles an ancient practice of singing. With presenter Scott Weidler, associate director for worship and music of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as . - Stuart Hall School will host a Family Fun Day/Open House on February 11, giving prospective families a chance to visit, meet teachers and parents, and enjoy crafts and snacks. RSVP at 540-213-7743.
