Need to Know
- The 217th Annual Council of the Diocese of Virginia was a great success, and delivered a fantastic send-off for Bishop Jones. Visit the Council Web site for updates on Council business, including the reports of Bishop Johnston, Bishop Jones, Bishop Gulick, the secretary and the treasurer.
- Thanks to all those attending the Annual Council workshop, "Mission and Outreach: At Home and Abroad." This is the time of year that youth groups and parish mission teams are preparing for 2012 mission trips. The Office of Mission and Outreach keeps a continuous prayer list of churches and people going on mission trips. Please email Mary Anne Bryant at mabryant@thediocese.net and let her know where and when your church will be going. Do not hesitate to contact Buck Blanchard, director of Mission and Outreach, at bblanchard@athediocese.net if you have any questions or need assistance. Mission grant applications are available online.
- Are you a member of a prayer group or colleague group that meets regularly for spiritual support and fellowship? We're seeking prayer and colleague group participants - both laity and clergy - to share their story with the Virginia Episcopalian magazine. Please contact Emily Cherry at echerry@thediocese.net.

Diocesan Disaster Preparedness & Response Volunteer Day
This Volunteer Day will be a chance to help those individuals or parishes who are thinking of forming a group to go on a disaster recovery mission. Sponsored by the diocesan Disaster Preparedness & Response Ministry Team, the event will take place on Saturday, February 25, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Aquia Church, Stafford. Participants will learn about opportunities available in 2012, make some initial contacts and get the required diocesan training - all in one spot! The day's agenda will include a presentation from Episcopal Relief and Development. Dioceses in Alabama, Louisiana, Vermont, Texas, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and North Dakota will host recovery teams in 2012, and all have been invited to deliver brief presentations about their unique situations.
Aquia Church's soup kitchen ministry will serve lunch (donation requested), and workshops on the prevention of sexual misconduct will take place in the afternoon.
