The Orkney Springs Post Office

The Orkney Springs Post Office, where Shrine Mont receives its mail, has been targeted for closing with all the postal services to be transferred to the Basye Post Office. The USPS is hosting a public comment period until November 30.

The Post Office is an integral part of the Orkney Springs Community. Closing the post office will have some detrimental effects to the community, as there are no other places for regular public gathering or dialogue, especially when Shrine Mont is closed. The worst effects will occur when Shrine Mont and the camps are in full swing, when all the camp mail will have to be sorted through Basye and either delivered to Shrine Mont or picked up there. Mail will be delayed and Shrine Mont and camp staff will have to work much harder to make sure mail gets to the right place in a timely manner.

The Orkney Springs Post Office is also one of a few that is actually seeing revenues increase from year to year, and is historically significant with roots going back to 1853.

We'd like to encourage camper parents and other concerned individuals to contact their congressional representatives and other decision makers they may know to help keep the Orkney Springs Post Office open.
