Need to Know
-
Four members of the Diocese of Virginia spent two weeks visiting the Episcopal Diocese of Cuba this summer. This was an exploratory trip to get to know the Cuban church, make connections, and look for possibilities for future visits. We found a vibrant and growing church with 44 congregations served by 27 priests, four of whom were just ordained last year. For information, contact Len LeRoy at lwleroy@verizon.net.

The Church and Suicide: Compassion & Response
Showing compassion and love to suicide survivors and their families--how churches can save lives and heal spirits--is the theme of a conference developed by the diocesan Mental Health Committee. Participants will be guided through the emotions of a survivor to the practical realities of risk populations and the principles of therapy and re-construction.
The Church's theology of compassion will be explored as it relates to our responsibilities. Ways in which churches can actively save lives and nurture families will be discussed. An illustration of what a Church can do, a healing service, will be held as an optional add-on to the conference.
Reserve a place now online or call 540-778-2451 to reserve or get more information. Conference is at St. Pauls, Alexandria (228 Pitt St.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 29. Suggested donation: $20, snack breakfast and light lunch included. Resource toolkits provided at conference. |
