The Church & Suicide: Compassion & Response

On October 29, St. Paul's, Alexandria is the venue for a five-hour conference on what clergy and lay persons can do to both prevent suicides and to nurture the survivors and families of suicide.

As the risk groups for suicide increase and the signs of pending suicide become more visible, churches and parishioners have more opportunities to save lives and show compassion. The conference, at 228 Pitt St., is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. with an optional healing service to follow at 3:15.

Reservations may be made online or by calling Dr. Paul Ackerman at 540-778-2451.

Sponsored by the diocesan Committee on Mental Health.
