Need to Know
  • Does your church use Constant Contact for e-mail marketing? Then you can help support youth of the Diocese at the same time! Churches that sign up for Constant Contact under the Diocese of Virginia business partnership still maintain their own, independent accounts, but 15% of their Constant Contact payments go to toward Youth Mission Vouchers. New and existing Constant Contact clients can take advantage of this partnership. Learn more about Constant Contact and this partnership by contacting Emily Cherry in the diocesan Communications Office.
Diocesan Events
  • Save the date for Small Church Day, October 29 at Christ Church, Spotsylvania. Sponsored by the Committee on Congregational Missions, the event will feature Bishop Jones as keynote speaker, and will address the topic of spiritual gifts. More details on registration to follow.
  • In September 2010, the Diocese's Stewardship of Creation Committee held its first Water Sustainability Conference. A direct result of this dialogue was the drafting "Stewardship Goals for a Sustainable Water Supply," a set of common sense goals that help us all to focus on several key water sustainability issues -- for example, Goal No. 1 is "Water drawn from stream and river sources should be used in ways that, at minimum, do not diminish and, ideally, increase downstream water quality." Want to learn more? Join us for the Water Sustainability Conference, Part II, Continuing the Dialogue. Saturday, September 10 at St. Stephen's Church, Richmond. Learn more on the committee Web site

Aid for Samali Refugees in Kenya
From Episcopal Relief & Development

On July 20, the United Nations declared a famine in two regions of southern Somalia. The food shortage is the consequence of a sustained drought that is said to be the worst in more than 50 years. Reports indicate that over 800,000 people have fled Somalia as a result, many seeking refuge in the neighboring countries of Kenya and Ethiopia. In response to the developing crisis, Episcopal Relief & Development will be working through its network of Anglican and Episcopal partners to support the humanitarian work of local organizations such as Ukamba Christian Community Services in Kenya.
