Need to Know
  • Share your story with The Virginia Episcopalian. We want to hear more about churches involved in prison ministry; churches or individuals that are actively promoting ministry in daily life; church buildings with intriguing pasts or "former lives"; and innovative liturgies. Contact Emily Cherry to share your stories.
  • The new Title IV canons (Ecclesiastical Disciple) go into effect on July 1, 2011. These new canons  provide a discernment process designed to help the Church address serious misconduct by its ordained leaders.  Lay persons and clergy are needed to serve as Investigators, Advisors, Conciliators and Pastoral Care Team Members.  You may nominate yourself or someone else for one of the roles by using the Application Form (link). Training will be provided for those who serve in any of these roles.  A brief summary of the new Title IV (link) and a flow chart of how it works are available.

An Invitation to the Holy Land

Join members of the Episcopal Dioceses of Washington and Virginia on a guided pilgrimage to both holy sites and Episcopal institutions in Israel, Palestine and Jordan. We will visit Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Nazareth and spend time at the holy places reading the relevant texts from scripture, praying and reflecting on the events of Our Lord's life, death and resurrection. In doing so we will be following in the footsteps of generations of Christian pilgrims.  But we will also have the chance to encounter the reality of Christian life in the Holy Land today and in particular the people and institutions of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem.

The trip includes stops at two major Roman sites so we can better understand the forces at play in the Passion story.  There is also the option of a free day in Jerusalem to allow you to spend additional time at the holy places there and/or to visit West Jerusalem and gain additional insight into the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
