Diocesan Events
  • The Virginia Episcopalian focus group scheduled for this evening has been canceled. 
  • St. Stephen's, Richmond invites all members of the Diocese to attend their Centennial Speaker Series with noted retreat leader and lecturer, the Rev. Margaret Guenther, who will speak on the theme, "Emmanuel, Come!"
  • Bishop Johnston will ordain Kenneth Nicholas Forti, Christopher Martin Garcia, Valerie Jean Hayes, Catherine Delbridge Hicks, Cornelia Miller Weierbach and Anne Lane Witt to the sacred order of priests on Saturday, December 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's, Goochland. The Rt. Rev. G. Porter Taylor, bishop of Western North Carolina, will ordain Sara Caroline Ardrey-Graves to the sacred order of priests at Emmanuel, Harrisonburg on January 8 at 5 p.m.

Annual Council

The 216th Annual Council will take place January 21-22 at the Hyatt Regency, Reston, with the Rt. Rev. David C. Jones, bishop suffragan, as chaplain. Learn more in this Virginia Episcopalian article, "Many Gifts, One Spirit."


Please take note of the following important details:


*The early registration deadline (with a $50 discounted rate) is next Friday, December 10. Exhibitors must register separately.


*Please make your hotel reservations directly with the Hyatt by January 5. 


*The deadline for submitting nominations, resolutions, amendments and reports is January 5.


*Council members will be asked to print a special packet of materials that will be available online by January 6.


*Please plan to attend the Pre-Council Hearing meeting on January 8 at St. Stephen's, Richmond. If you cannot attend in person, please send any comments you have on resolutions and canonical changes to resolutions@thediocese.net or canons@thediocese.net by January 5.


*Council will feature a special welcome reception on Thursday, January 20 in honor of Bishop Gulick's new ministry in Virginia. Friday evening will include a party with live music.
