Interesting Facts About Diocesan Life

Looking for wise investment strategy? The Trustees of the Funds (TOTF), continues to outperform the best known market standards.  As of June 30, 2010, given the economy of 2008 and 2009, TOTF has returned an annualized gain of +4.6% versus +0.5% for a portfolio of S&P 500 (stocks) and Barclay's Aggregate (bonds).  That is over a 4% gain for investing diocesan churches and organizations on an annual basis and, most importantly, that is money that goes back into mission and ministry in the Diocese of Virginia.  The oldest fund managed by TOTF dates back to October 31, 1754.

Prayer for Sudan

On January 9, 2011, the Southern Sudanese participate in a referendum to determine if they will split from the North and become an independent country. The Rt. Rev. Daniel Deng Bul, archbishop of the Episcopal Church of Sudan, is a member of a delegation of religious leaders traveling in the United States this week as part of an informational and political visit to present the plight of the Sudanese to the world. There are several ways to learn more.

*St. Paul's, Alexandria will host the archbishop on Sunday, October 17. The archbishop will preach at the 11 a.m. service and will host a discussion, "Sudan at the Crossroads: Referendum and After," at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

*You can participate in an interfaith Christian, Jewish and Muslim service with the Sudanese bishops and religious leaders, sponsored by the Interfaith Sudan Working Group, on Wednesday, October 20 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Adas Israel Congregation (2850 Quebec Street, Washington D.C.).
