Book Review:
Some Lions I have Met
By Gordon Cundill
At the moment prices for lion hunting in Africa have really gone up. This is due to a number of factors. Botswana has closed to all lion hunting, Tanzania's prices for hunting have increased exponentially, and even so called "canned" lion hunts in South Africa are likely to go away. All of these factors have driven up the price of a lion hunt throughout Southern Africa. This only makes a big lion trophy that much more desirable for some, and downright out of reach for others. This offering from Rowland Ward Some Lions I have Met is timely and fascinating. It is one man's look back at many years of lion hunting. Each of these exciting stories has an instructional angle to it as well. There are a few stories about hunting other species, but this is a lion book. Whether you have hunted many lions or hope to have the privilege to just hunt one some day this book will make fascinating reading. To order this book and to see their full collection of books and safari gear contact Rowland Ward. |
Mea Culpa
A few weeks ago I did a review of a Leupold VX-7 scope. I opined that it was an excellent scope all around and that it was every bit as good as the European equivalents but a bit better because of the longer eye relief. Also in that review I crticized the scope because I thought you could not put the Alumina flip up caps on the scope with the scope mounted on the rifle. I WAS WRONG. Leupold really did think of everything on that scope. I bumped into Cindy Flannigan from Leupold at the NRA convention and she set me straight. Inside the body of the cap there is a knurled ring which allows you to turn the threaded part of the cap onto the scope threads with no trouble at all. Even when it is mounted on the rifle. I should have known that Leupold would think of everything! - TJR |
News Brief:
Travel with .50 caliber ammunition We are still working with the NRA and the Hunting Report on the issue involving travelling with rifle ammunition above .50 caliber. The Hunting Report continues to get complaints about hunters having ammunition confiscated because it is above .50 caliber, ie .505 Gibbs. This is a serious matter and NRA has lawyers, and lobbyists working the issue furiously. We are hoping to hear soon that the problem has been resolved. | |
