Our reading this Sunday was written by Rev. Bob Luckin who serves in Redding, California. It was taken from the Science of Mind Daily Guides for August 2012 and is entitled "If Not For You." I thought it was beautiful and wanted to share it with you.

If not for you, there would be a place of emptiness in the heart of God. If not for you, all the good that you have done would still need doing. If not for you, the spark of your ideas would not have ignited a fire in others. If not for you, the key role that you have played in life's drama would remain unfilled. If not for you, at least one person would not have awakened to his or her dreams. If not for you, your triumphs could not be examples to inspire others. If not for you, someone who needed love would not have received it. If not for you, a life would have been shortened or never existed.

If not for you, the song of life would have missed a beat. If not for you, your gifts would remain ungiven. If not for you, another might have suffered in your place. If not for you, someone would have no path to follow. If not for you, there would be one less smile, one less laugh, and one less hug. If not for you, there would be less mystery. If not for you, an animal might be homeless and a garden left unplanted. If not for you, something would be missing.

You have always made a difference. Who you are is important every day. You are the face, the heart and the soul of God.

We're Havin' a Party!

We have so many August birthdays.....there are four alone on Friday, August 24.......that we have decided to have a birthday party for all of the August birthday babies. We will be meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 24, at the Greek Restaurant down in the Ventura Harbor. This will be a no-host dinner gathering. All are welcome to attend and help us celebrate! Manifestation Workshop 

In conjunction with our 5 Gifts Prosperity Class which is currently being taught, Rev. Karen is offering a manifestation workshop after service on Sunday, August 26, from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Woman's Club, $15 love offering (no one will be turned away). Discover how to live in an atmosphere of giving. Develop an intention and feeling tone to live by. Uncover the blocks to manifestation. Develop an action plan based on real knowing. Free Monthly Spiritual Cinema Night 

This month's Spiritual Cinema Night will feature I Heart Huckabees, an American philosophical comedy starring Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Isabelle Huppert and Mark Wahlberg. It will take place on the last Friday of the month, August 31, at Casa de La Luna Retreat, 710 S. La Luna Avenue here in Ojai. In Huckabees, Hoffman and Tomlin play a pair of "existential detectives," who help clients make sense of the events of their lives. Life being what it is, this is not easy, but it is often hilarious. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie begins at 7:00 p.m. Although the event is free, donations are gratefully accepted and go to Casa de La Luna Retreat.

Labor Day Luncheon

For those of you who are in town on Labor Day, Monday, September 3, we will be having our September Lunch Bunch at the Aloha Restaurant, on the beach in Ventura, 364 S. California Street, Ventura 93001, at 12:30 PM. There is a special $9.95 luncheon being offered from a selection of several entrees, which include salad and wild rice along with a choice of soda or iced tea. Reservations are under the name of Rev. Karen Wylie. Come and celebrate Leisure Day with the Symphony of Life! We shall be looking for you!

Meet Chris Prideaux, Our Volunteer of the Month

Chris has won this distinction before, but she certainly deserves it for her recent efforts (and the efforts of her family members whom she enlisted to help her) in setting up and running the Silent Auction for our July 22nd "Concert under the Stars" event at The Ojai Retreat. Due to Christine Prideaux's excellent and thorough efforts, in addition to the wonderful efforts of many, the event was a successful one for the Symphony of Life. Christine also serves as the Secretary for our Board of Trustees. She serves in the Youth Adventures Program on the third Sunday of the month, and she serves as a greeter. When Chris has a job to do, she does it above and beyond the "call of duty." We are so grateful that she is in our midst!
