"Everyone is born a genius, but the process
of living de-geniuses them."
Buckminster Fuller
This past Sunday we talked about manifesting our intentions. In this teaching, we pride ourselves on being great manifesters, but some of us think we can repeat a few affirmations and that will be enough. Manifesting your heart's desire is a bit more complicated than that.
The power of intention cannot be accessed through the ego. When we get our ego out of the way, our intentions are maximized. Deepak Chopra wrote that intention alone is very powerful because it is desire without attachment. On the other hand, desire alone is weak because desire in most people is attention with attachment. Detachment is a belief in the power of your True Self. When you can be detached from your intentions, you are living in the unknown, the field of all possibilities. Attachment to your intentions, on the other hand, is based on fear and insecuriy. It is living in the known which is basically a stale repetition of the past. Our job is to keep our attention on our intention. Intention plus detachment equals present moment awareness. Accept the present and intend the future.
Our affirmation for the day: I relinquish my attachment to the known as I step willingly into the field of all possibilities! I experience the fun of life, the magic, the celebration, the exhilaration, and the exultation of my spirit!
In peace and love,
Rev. Karen Wylie

Volunteer of the Month for the Month of August I am happy to announce our Volunteer for the Month of August. This amazing lady has won this distinction before, but she certainly deserves it for her recent efforts (and the efforts of her family members whom she enlisted to help her) in setting up and running the Silent Auction for our July 22nd "Concert under the Stars" event at The Ojai Retreat. Due to Christine Prideaux's excellent and thorough efforts, in addition to the wonderful efforts of many, the event was a successful one for the Symphony of Life. Christine also serves as the Secretary for our Board of Trustees. She serves in the Youth Adventures Program on the third Sunday of the month, and she serves as a greeter. When Chris has a job to do, she does it above and beyond the "call of duty." We are so grateful that she is in our midst! Christine Prideaux (in blue) with her family members
