Announcements

SPECIAL GUEST THIS SUNDAY We are extremely blessed to have Rev. Dr. Maisha Hazzard as our guest speaker this Sunday. Her topic is "Out of the Womb of Consciousness." I would like you to come to hear her because she is a presence to experience. Even though Rev. Maisha has achieved major accomplishments in her life, she always asked us to call her simply Maisha. To give you some of her background, she is an innovative educator, behavior change communication specialist, speech writer, media consultant and Ageless Wisdom minister. She holds advanced degrees in Communication (Ph.D); Transpersonal Psychology (Ph.D.); Behavioral Science (M.A.); and Counseling (M.S.C.) Further studies have included International Studies, Telecommunications, Comparative Literature, Theatre as Therapy, Cross Cultural Education, Information Science, Neuroscience, and Religious Studies at various universities and institutes in the United States and West Africa. She spent more than 25 years as an international consultant and university professor at various institutes of higher learning around the world and more than 25 simultaneous years writing, directing, performing, and producing in performing arts and media arts programs on five continents. She is an award-winning radio producer who has trained writers, producers, and media consultants from more than 30 countries. She has served as a consultant to elected officials in the United States and heads of state in countries in the Caribbean and Southern Africa. Rev. Maisha wrote the curriculum for the School of Ministry at Agape's University of Transformational Studies and Leadership and taught there for four years. Currently Rev. Dr. Maisha conducts workshops in school districts and spiritual communities on the brain and learning, the power of our subconscious mind, emotional intelligence and emotional healing, strategic intuition, spiritual activism and universal spiritual principles beneath the masks of God. She is ordained as a Religious Science and International Metaphysics minister. I invite you to come on Sunday to hear what she has to say about "Out of the Womb of Consciousness."
Mother's Day Lunch Bunch Join us right after service at 12:30 this Sunday for our first intentional "Lunch Bunch!" We will celebrate Mother's Day together at Papa Lennons in Meiners Oaks. Reservations have been made for a table on the patio. We'll order individually at the counter and then share our meal together. As a new activity for our center, we plan on coming together in this way once a month after service. Our next one will be on Father's Day, Sunday, June 17. Come and share some laughter and fun! Gratitude and Appreciation Rev. Marilyn Miller and Practitioner Todd Chandler were the teachers for our Youth Adventures Program this past Sunday. In celebration of Buddha's birthday, the children learned some interesting facts about the life of Buddha.
We are blessed to have many fabulous teachers for our children every Sunday. Our youth program supports parents in raising joyful, happy children who are self-confident, spiritually aware, global citizens. Each Sunday, our children 3-11 years old enjoy prayer, story telling, visual arts projects and/or music and movement. Our program is enriching and appropriate for young people regardless of their religious backgrounds. As part of our Sunday program, children get to explore the roots, purpose and meaning of special holidays throughout the year. If you feel called to assist with our youth program even one Sunday a month or one Sunday a quarter (your choice), we would welcome you to participate. We welcome individuals who enjoy children and are willing to give of their time once monthly or quarterly. Please call Rev. Marilyn Miller, (805) 640-0498 if you are interested in assisting with this program. Tithe Recipient for the Month of March Our tithe recipient for the month of March is the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation. On behalf of that organization, Olga Singer will be joining us this Sunday to receive a Certificate of Appreciation and our tithe check for the month of March. We are a tithing community and regularly tithe 10% of our gross monthly profits to a worthwhile nonprofit organization in Ojai which we feel is making a great contribution. We are pleased to recognize the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation for their good work. Volunteer of the Month Our Volunteer of the Month for the month of May is Bob Quinn. Bob is currently the team leader of our Hospitality/Greeting Ministry. From the very beginning when Bob first joined us, he has been a wonderful service angel to the Symphony of Life. (It was his big white truck with the red flames on the side that pulled our first-ever Fourth of July float last year.) Whenever anything is needed, Bob is there to serve and to assist. Every community needs lots of Bob Quinns. We are lucky that Bob is here in community with us! Pictured below are Bob, Tiese and Jake Quinn.
On Board with the Board Our featured board member this month is our Treasurer, Tiese Quinn. Tiese is pictured above with hubby Bob and son Jake. Tiese has a B.A. in English Literature. Tiese says she is the first-born of an Air Force family and she lived a nomadic lifestyle for most of her life. She was born in Illinois but considers Griswold, Iowa to be her home town because both of her parents were born and raised there, and it was the place where they always returned. Growing up, Tiese lived in many states and spent three years in Germany. Along the way, she added a husband, Bob, and children, including Jake, who try their best to keep up with her. She says she has had several careers: Finance Company Bookkeeper, Plan Processor for a Civil Engineering firm, horse and mule packer/guide in the Southern Sierra, and Comptroller for that same Civil Engineering firm now owned by her husband Bob and her. Fortunately for the Symphony of Life, Bob and Tiese moved to Ojai in 2009. Tiese has served on the Board of Directors for over two years, first as Vice President, and now as Treasurer. She says that it has been such a pleasure to see the growth and commitment of our community. She is looking forward to a continuing relationship of many years' duration. Tiese says that since landing in Ojai, she finally feels that she is at home. That is very good news for us! Open Invitation This is an invitation to singers and musicians out there who would like to perform at the Symphony of Life. Contact Rev. Karen, (805) 640-3743, or Patricia Cardinali, (805) 646-2098, if you are interested.
