Gratitude and Thanksgiving Our special thanks to Rev. Marilyn Miller who spoke this past Sunday on "The Beloved Community." I hear that it was a great service. We thank Rev. Marilyn for her dedication and continued commitment to the Symphony of Life Spiritual Center. Rev. Marilyn We are grateful also to David Powell who provided our musical inspiration along with Patricia Cardinali on Sunday, April 22. He drove up from Agape to join Patricia in lifting us high in song. Thank you David! David Powell and Rev. Karen Thanks also to Robert Gluckson, Rev. Marilyn Miller and Todd Chandler who facilitated our children's program on Sunday, April 22. They are all great at stimulating the creative flow in our children with puppets and story telling. Symphony of Life Book Club Our book club meets tonight, Friday, May 4, at 6:00 PM to discuss our current book, Making The Reata, a novel by Terry Tallent. Terry lives here in Ojai, and I understand that he will be attending the book club meeting to join in the discussion. We will be choosing our book for the month of May. Everyone is welcome to join in at any time. We usually meet the first Friday of every month, and the meetings are a potluck so bring a dish to share. Contact Peggie Williamson at (805) 640-2450 for more information. Symphony of Life Spring Meditation Retreat You are cordially invited to our Spring Meditation Retreat which will be held on Saturday, May 5, at Meditation Mount, from 8:00 am to 12:30. This beautiful full moon morning will begin with an outside ceremony to receive all the gifts of the day. We will then enter into the silence and stillness through meditation practices followed by a life visioning process. This event will be facilitated by Practitioner Randee Vasilakos. Randee currently serves as a practitioner with the Symphony of Life. She also holds an active license with the Agape International Spiritual Center. Randee has a private practice in Ojai where she utilizes over 20 years of experience in counseling and meditation. Registration Fee: $25 before April 30; $30 after April 30 and at the door. Volunteer of the Month Our Volunteer of the Month for the month of May is Bob Quinn. Bob is currently the team leader of our Hospitality/Greeting Ministry. From the very beginning when Bob first joined us, he has been a wonderful service angel to the Symphony of Life. (It was his big white truck with the red flames on the side that pulled our first-ever Fourth of July float last year.) Whenever anything is needed, Bob is there to serve and to assist. Every community needs lots of Bob Quinns. We are lucky that Bob is here in community with us! Pictured below are Bob, Tiese and Jake Quinn.
On Board with the Board Our featured board member today is our Treasurer, Tiese Quinn. Tiese has a B.A. in English Literature. Tiese says she is the first-born of an Air Force family and she lived a nomadic lifestyle for most of her life. She was born in Illinois but considers Griswold, Iowa to be her home town because both of her parents were born and raised there, and it was the place where they always returned. Growing up, Tiese lived in many states and spent three years in Germany. Along the way, she added a husband, Bob, and children, including Jake, who try their best to keep up with her. She says she has had several careers: Finance Company Bookkeeper, Plan Processor for a Civil Engineering firm, horse and mule packer/guide in the Southern Sierra, and Comptroller for that same Civil Engineering firm now owned by her husband Bob and her. Fortunately for the Symphony of Life, Bob and Tiese moved to Ojai in 2009. Tiese has served on the Board of Directors for over two years, first as Vice President, and now as Treasurer. She says that it has been such a pleasure to see the growth and commitment of our community. She is looking forward to a continuing relationship of many years' duration. Tiese says that since landing in Ojai, she finally feels that she is at home. That is very good news for us! Tiese Quinn Open Invitation This is an invitation to singers and musicians out there who would like to perform at the Symphony of Life. Contact Rev. Karen, (805) 640-3743, or Patricia Cardinali, (805) 646-2098, if you are interested.
