"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."

Plato

My topic for this Sunday is "O Come All Ye Faith-Filled." We shall be talking about the power of faith. The great ones who have lived on the planet and who have been powerful instruments of change have had deep conviction and belief in what they could not see. Often times these great ones have none of the orthodox tools of power, such as money, battleships, soldiers and materials of warfare, yet these great ones understand the principle of faith and have the ability to transplant that faith into the minds of millions of people. Utilizing nothing more than the power of faith, these great ones have accomplished amazing things.

Faith has been recognized as a power throughout the ages, whether it be faith in God, faith in one's fellowman, in oneself, or in what one is doing. Faith is not just about our religious experience, though that may be its highest expression. Always the person who has great faith in his or her own ability will accomplish far more than the one who has no confidence. Those who have great faith have great power.

So we will be talking more about faith this Sunday and also we will be welcoming Karie Hillery, a wonderful musician who has appeared all over the country. She will lift us up in Spirit! See you then!

In loving gratitude,

Rev. Karen Wylie

Christmas Caroling Tonight, Dec. 16

Join us tonight for Christmas caroling. We will meet at 4:45 in the Clubhouse at The Gables at the corner of Montgomery and Grand. We will be caroling from 5:00 to 7:00 at The Gables, The Gardens and at Los Robles Care Center. All three facilities are within walking distance of the corner of Grand and Montgomery. You don't have to be a great singer, just have the desire to sing and make some people (including yourself) happy. We will be singing popular Christmas carols that everyone will know. It will be fun, and it is Sacred Service!

Interfaith Christmas Eve Service

The Symphony of Life is busy preparing for a wonderful service on Christmas Eve. We will be celebrating at Meditation Mount again this year, offering a joyful, love-filled Interfaith Service at 7:00 PM followed by an appetizer and dessert potluck social. Bring your favorite appetizer or desert to share. Celebration, music, readings, and fellowship! Invite your family and friends! All faiths are welcome.

We welcome children 3-11 years of age to enjoy prayer, story telling, visual arts projects and/or music and movement. Our program is enriching and appropriate for young people regardless of their religious backgrounds. Please call Rev. Marilyn Miller, (805) 640-0498, if you are interested in assisting with the children.

Also, if anybody out there in newsletter land has a baby gate, we would love a donation for use in our children's area.

Volunteer of the Month for December

Our Volunteer of the Month for the month of December is Duane Williamson. Duane has served as Treasurer for the Board of Directors of the Symphony of Life for almost three years. In addition, he has served in so many capacities and has assisted with every event we have had during that time. His life seems to be one dedicated to service; he shows up in service to other organizations here in Ojai as well. Duane is a person that you can count on to show up when you need help, and we at the Symphony of Life so appreciate all that he has done to support our community in its growth and expansion. Thank you Duane!
