"I have learned silence from the talkative, tolerance from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind.

Yet, strange, I am ungrateful to these teachers."

Kahlil Gibran

What an exciting day the Fourth of July was for us at the Symphony of Life! It was one year ago that I sat watching the parade go by, thinking that it might be great fun for the Symphony of Life to create a float and enter the parade. It is exciting to have a dream.....whatever it might be.......and watch it come into fruition. Then when I mentioned the idea during our Sunday service, Candace Hull was quick to volunteer to lead the team, and what a leader she has been.....never losing her patience.....never being angry......always looking at the bright side....having the capacity to generate a spirit of teamwork. Perfect leadership and throughout all of it, I could feel her joy and excitement at the idea which matched my own.

A wonderful spirit of camaraderie was generated as we worked together to build the float. In the end, I think it is fair to say that people showed up for the aspect of float building that most resonated with them so that everything then was done in a spirit of joy, which is the best way to create anything.

Our theme was "Celebrating freedom and diversity." Each day before beginning our work on the float, we prayed together to catch the deeper meaning of freedom and diversity. We thought not just about our human rights that we are so blessed to have here in America, but also freedom in consciousness from our own self-inflicted thought forms that hold us hostage. We embraced the idea of true spiritual liberation....the ability to see ourselves as powerful beings of light, unencumbered by false beliefs that can keep us imprisoned. We prayed to see and embrace not just our cultural diversity but the diversity of each of us as a unique and individualized expression of God....no two alike.

In the end, I can say, it was a fun, joy-filled adventure! Our affirmation for the day: I let my joy lead me, and I am always in the right place, doing the right thing!

In peace and love,

Deep Gratitude and Appreciation!

First, our many, many thanks to Steve Todd, of Todd Farm Service, here in Ojai (805) 798-1253, for the loan of his wonderful flatbed trailer. Below is a picture of the trailer after Steve loaded the bales of straw on top. Steve was so obliging and helpful; whatever we needed, he was quick to respond. Steve sells livestock hay wholesale and retail. He sells to feed stores and private parties. It is a pleasure doing business with Steve!

Second, our sincere thanks to Ron Price over at Ojai Valley Feed, 1114 Tico Road, Phone: (805) 646-5442. Ron let us use his backyard to build our float. He is a completely generous and helpful man. He has a full range of pet foods and supplies. Go see Ron and tell him that the Symphony of Life sent you!

Creative Adventures Summer Program

Rev. Marilyn Miller and Practitioner Todd Chandler were our fabulous teachers for our children this past Sunday. In alignment with our spiritual center's theme of the month, "Prosperous Living," the young people were given a great lesson about money. They discussed how God is energy, and since God is in all things, money is indeed energy. Looking at the U.S. money symbols they read "In God We Trust." They learned a prosperity formula which will help them understand money management tools at an early age, including how to live within their means: Give 10% of your money to God; save 20% (not in a spending account but saving for long term needs) and spend only 70% of each dollar.

If you like to interact with children, we welcome you to join our staff either as a teacher or as an assistant. Please call Rev. Marilyn Miller, (805) 640-0498, if you are interested in participating.
