"Love is at the center of man's being, and the calm,

continuous pulsations of life are governed by love."

Ernest Holmes

"Keep thy heart with all diligence,

for out of it are the issues of life."

Holy Bible, Proverbs 4:23

As we move into this weekend in celebration of Independence Day, we might stop to ponder what it means to be truly liberated. For many of us, it is easy to believe in something outside of ourselves, but not so easy to believe in the one whose face we see when we look in the mirror.

Yet we are told that at core we are spiritual beings........That God works through us, as us. If that is true, then we must behold and love the one whose image we see in the looking glass. I'm not talking about that kind of self-centered adoration of the ego. I'm talking about waking up to the worthiness, the preciousness and lovability of our own sacred Self.

We are imbued with grace and the infinite wisdom of the father of fathers and the mother of mothers. There in the center of us we find a deep resilience of Being. There in the midst of us is the fortitude and strength to hold everything together no matter what's going on in the outer world. In this great knowing, we transcend the small self, the fear-filled self.

We wake up to who we truly are. This takes great surrender in great humility. Finally, we must leave behind any notion that we are not good enough or big enough to step into such a vital and important role. I understand who I am beyond what you think of me or even what I have, in the past, thought of me.

In our complete yielding to God, we become. There it is, so simple really. We become. It is not about the outer world's opinion any more, yet it is the outer world we are here to serve in our becoming. We are supported by the Kingdom of God, and finally, WE ARE TRULY FREE!

Our affirmation for the day: I behold the Divine Light within me. I'm grateful and thankful for who I've become.

In peace and love,
Rev. Karen Wylie

The Ojai Fourth of July Parade

If you've ever wanted to decorate a Fourth of July float, now is your chance! We will be starting the serious decorating of the Symphony of Life float tomorrow, Saturday morning, July 2, at 9:00 AM, at Ojai Valley Feed, 1114 Tico Road, here in Ojai. Some of us will be there also this morning at 9:00 AM to do some preliminary preparation. Our theme is "Celebrating Freedom and Diversity." We are decorating the float with rugs, shawls, and fabrics from many different cultures, hats (i.e., a sombrero, Chinese, etc.) and other items that represent the cultural diversity of our country. Please don't bring anything of great value or items that might break. All are welcome to join in the fun. It's also not too late to be part of the festivities on July 4th! We welcome you to wear your ethnic clothing representing your own unique heritage, or any other for that matter, and either walk alongside or ride on our float. If you have any questions or need further info, contact our Team Leader, Candace Hull, at (805) 646-0227.

Outdoor Summer Concert with Jami Lula!

The Jami Lula outdoor benefit concert is coming up on Sunday, July 24th here in Ojai. He'll be singing at our spiritual center in the morning of the 24th, and then later in the day, performing an outdoor summer concert at the Ojai Retreat on Besant Road. We are planning a refreshment/appetizer reception in the Waterfall Garden at the retreat from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. It will include a no host bar and a silent auction, and then Jami will perform in concert on the Shangri-la Terrace from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Our fabulous silent auction features a 7-day, three-bedroom condo stay in Hawaii, and includes artwork, restaurant packages and many other exciting items. If you have some things you'd like to donate for the silent auction, please contact Rev. Marilyn Miller at (805) 640-0498. This promises to be a beautiful event. Tickets are available right now at www.solsc.org, $20 in advance; $25 at the door. You won't want to miss this beautiful summer evening of fun!

Creative Adventures Summer Program

We are blessed with many fabulous teachers for our children every Sunday. Our youth program supports parents in raising joyful, happy children who are self-confident, spiritually aware, global citizens. Each Sunday, our children 3-11 years old enjoy prayer, story telling, visual arts projects and/or music and movement. Our program is enriching and appropriate for young people regardless of their religious backgrounds. As part of our Sunday program, children get to explore the roots, purpose and meaning of special holidays throughout the year.

We welcome individuals who enjoy children and are willing to give of their time once monthly or quarterly. Please call Rev. Marilyn Miller, (805) 640-0498, if you are interested in assisting with the children.
