Dream Paint Flourish!
|
June 18, 2009 | |
|
Greetings!
You didn't miss an issue, I skipped a week! While at Assateague I became a kid again and created a whole New Castle called D'Muse. My Daily Painting Journal is just one window in the castle. You will find it below with the story of how all this happened!
The rest of the castle has many windows each with a view showing your garden as if it were a painting! You will find two of viewpoints in this issue along with my paintings from New Castle, Delaware. These are featured in my new book called Kindred Gardens New Castle.
The paintings are on view at the Old Library & Museum in New Castle, DE and the book will be out in July.
I invite you to visit my new castle on the web at www.dinnerwiththemuse.com There you fill find much more information about inspiring projects like how to have your garden featured in a Kindred Gardens Book you can share with all your friends!
Enjoy!
P. S. So many people have written me to say how much they enjoyed reading Allie's Gift, I am publishing the story and paintings in an exquisite little square book. You will find it pictured in an article below.

Developing Contrast in Your Garden Interpreting Your Garden as a Painting
Contrast is the most important element in designing a painting or a garden. Without contrast ~ everything appears flat and lifeless. Here are three things you can do to see contrast and use it in your garden.
1. Close your eyes and imagine your Self flying through your garden as if you are a bird. Feel the cool shadiness of the dark areas. Feel the bright sunshine of the light areas. Where will you perch? In the shade? Or in the sun? Where will you eat? In the shade? or in the sun? Where will you sing? Write down your answers and any thoughts which pop to mind along the way.
2. With a crayon or charcoal, make a rectangle to represent the shape of your garden. Use the broad side of the crayon (take the paper off!) to 'shade in' the cool dark areas of your garden. READ MORE>

Three Ways to Frame Your Garden Like an Artist
With a Gate, a Window or from the Inside Out If you can answer this visual riddle, you can design your garden like an artist designs a painting.
Where do you see your garden from? Are you standing at the gate looking in? Are you looking out your window? Or are you IN your garden feeling your way around like an artist paints his way out of a canvas ~ with emotion?
In this view of the Dutch House Garden in New Castle, I was at first intrigued by the multiple lines of fences and gates. I stood on the far side of the garden and looked across to the gate where my easel is postitioned. See if you can answer the design riddle at the end of the story ... READ MORE> |

Our connection to animals is extraordinary. Allie awakened me in a way I never could have imagined. This is the story of how painting her portrait on the day she died changed everything. Allie, of course, lives on now forever in this exquisite little book and in the hearts and minds of all who share it.
Kindred Gardens New Castle
The historic gardens of New Castle, Delaware contain some intriguing and inspiring lessons for all gardeners. Six plein air paintings by artist Dorothy Fagan illustrate her discussions of balancing contrast, pruning and framing in the garden. A truly unique look at gardening from an artist's eye.

A Day at the Beach, Jardines del Ninos & a New Castle
How I Got There by Going Backwards
June 9
A recent painting trip to Assateague challenged my sense of direction. What to do? Which way to go? How to get there? I made mistakes every step of the way. What I learned took me back to kindergarten.
Playing with my paint, sitting with my easel in the sand instead of standing, snoozing in between paintings, experimenting with different ideas shared by other artists; engaging my Self in the JOY of being a kid on the beach shifted all my gears and sent me forward into my own painting vehicle.
I grew up going to the beach. My children grew up going to the beach. Since we have all grown up, we haven't been to the beach ~ until yesterday. My friends from MAPAPA (Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association) were having a Paint Out at Assateague National Seashore. I signed up to go. READ MORE>
