Taylor Davis, 2010 Samuel V. Champion High School Graduate
Taylor Davis on left. | The Chamber received a
great note the other day from Taylor Davis, the Champion High School student we
told you about in the June e-Newsletter who is the 2010 recipient of the Laurie
Bushong Lang Memorial Scholarship awarded by the Chamber.
He plans to attend Abilene
Christian University where he'll study Business and Sports Medicine.
He writes: Thank you for
selecting me to be the recipient of the Laurie Bushong Lang Memorial
Scholarship. It is truly an honor for me to receive this, as I know the impact
Mrs. Lang made on our community, and I want to make sure to always look for
ways that I can serve others in the same manner that she did."
It is clear Taylor will be a community leader when he

Kendall
County Air: A Model of Prosperity
Kendall County Air's 37 Year Celebration Ribbon Cutting | On July 1, 2010 the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce
celebrated our longest tenured member, Kendall County Air, with former owners,
Gaylan and Cherry Schroeder and current owners, Steve and Jimi Driskill, their
dedicated staff and a large contingent of Chamber Ambassadors.
Kendall County Air has been a member of the Chamber for
37 consecutive years. 37 Contiguous years as a Chamber member, it's time to celebrate with Bumdoodlers carot cakes! |
"Gaylan is not only my father-in-law; he is also my
mentor," Steve told us. "When I first joined the business, I learned how
important it was to be a Chamber member.
Whether times were lean or business was flourishing, Gaylan impressed
upon us that we needed to be a member of the Chamber because he knew the
Chamber and its members do business with each other." Read more. |

Boerne Star Schedules Reader's Choice Reveal
J.T. Maroney,
Advertising Executive for The Boerne Star, stopped by the Chamber to let us
know that the Star will be announcing the results of their Best of the Best
poll in the July 30th supplement. It is always fun to see the names
of our members sprinkled liberally throughout this annual supplement because
they have been voted favorites in the community.
We enjoy the friendly rivalries; the sudden
appearances of newcomers to the field, and especially the feedback of the
readers who demonstrate with their votes who they believe are the best of the
best in Boerne. So mark your calendars for July 30th - may we have
the supplement please?

Leadership Training To Keep Your Business Relevant Hill Country Leadership Summit Click on logo to view/download the flyer. | Leadership and success will
always be intentional and never by chance. In a time when we are required to do
more with less, we need to be able to draw the value out of existing resources.
One crucial way of doing that is to provide relevant training to key employees
at affordable prices. Leadership Boerne's Alumni, representatives of the
Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce's flagship program, are offering a half-day
of leadership training right here in Boerne. Read more.

Putting a Face on the
Workforce Readiness Initiative
Kelsey Passafuma, Chamber's Workforce Readiness Initiative Summer Intern | Our newspaper column for the week beginning May 24 shared a story
about the development of the Workforce Readiness Initiative pilot program that
was implemented in Boerne, Champion and Comfort High Schools this past Spring.
It was a partnership between the Chamber, BISD, CISD, with Workforce Solutions
and dozens of local businesses. The mission of the program is to teach students
the soft skills necessary to get a job and keep it. We repeated the story in
our June
newsletter.
Thanks to a funding program through Workforce
Solutions, the Chamber has enjoyed the services of WRI graduate Kelsey
Passafuma, a Boerne High School Junior who has lived in Boerne for all of her
16 years. Read more.
