Social Media in the Real World
Is Social Media a Viable Marketing Tool?
The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce continues its third year of Lunchbox Lessons with a class for those small businesses owners who haven't found a reason to "twitter" or "friend" their customers on June 21, 2010 at the Boerne Convention and Community Center at the corner of Adler and Plant at 11:30 a.m. Register online.
Jeff Morgenthaler, a Web communications professional, built a social media experiment from scratch, created an online marketing venue, attracted thousands of followers in just a few months, watched the conversation evolve, and tracked follower behavior. What did he learn? How did he do it? What does it mean for small-business social media?

Look for the "Boerne Board" at the KLRN Auction
Blazing Gavels - 44th Annual Great TV Auction
The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce has donated a one year Bronze Level membership to KLRN's 44th Annual Great Television Auction that runs June 10 through 19 to show our support of public television in the Hill Country. They will be running a "Boerne Board" at least one day during that period and the station will use the photo on the front of the Chamber's 2010 Business Guide, map and Images magazine as the icon for the Board focusing on Boerne's contributing businesses.
We encourage you to tune in to the auction and check out the many great buys available. Perhaps you'll consider bidding on the Chamber's membership package and use it to pay for your own membership renewal.

New Members Spotlight
New members spotlight is a new feature of the e-newsletter. Each month at the ambassador council meeting the council will draw two names from all the new members for the month. These new members will be spotlighted in the next e-newsletter. Here's the first two:
Graphic Design by Kristy Watson, (Polonyx, LLC)
Kristy Watson | It seems as though Kristy Watson has been around Boerne for a long time and we always heard her name mentioned in connection with the Agricultural Heritage Museum, where she volunteered countless hours.
What you may not know is that Kristy moved to Texas from Michigan because she wanted to be a cartographer. She worked designing maps for about four years until the company she worked for was bought out and moved to another state.
In 1996 Kristy opened her own business, Graphic Design by Kristy Watson, where she made her personal integrity the integral foundation of her business. If your business needs a fresh look, turn to Kristy for professionally designed brochures, rack cards, newsletters, business cards, logos, advertisements and so much more. Kristy can even refresh your website! Her work can have a lasting effect on your business.
A graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in Geography with a specialization in cartography, and a B.A. in Studio Art: Graphic Design, Kristy Watson is a Renaissance woman. She's an inventor, a gifted clarinetist, an artist, and talented horsewoman. She and her husband, Todd, reside in Bergheim with a menagerie of horses, llamas, dogs and cats. After looking at her website, it is clear Kristy finds a good deal of inspiration from country living. If you have a few minutes we direct you to the "About Kristy" page in the Artist section of her website. She's a fascinating woman, and one you can meet at upcoming Business After Hours Mixers, or simply by calling to talk with her about your marketing needs.
Join us in welcoming Kristy to the Chamber: she joined on May 11, sponsored by Jacques DuBose of Heartland Payment Systems.
Rukavina Photography
Linda Rukavina | Linda Rukavina joined the Chamber on May 17th at the Silver Level, with her photography business. She explains her mission as capturing memories to last a lifetime. "My job is to capture memories, plain and simple. My mission is to make sure those memories are a work of art for you and your loved ones to cherish for years to come. I do not shoot in one particular style. I have studied many genres including portrait, wedding, black and white, glamour, fashion, and photo-journalism. My wide range of experiences helps me to capture the mood of your shoot in order to tell your story. Photographs are one of the most effective ways of communicating with people throughout time and I will continue to make that my mission in every shoot."
Linda started her own business, Rukavina Photography, in 2008 after taking a couple of years off after her sweet Hannah was born. Actually, she says the favorite photo she ever took was of Hannah when she was 10 days old - and that photo is particularly meaningful since it also inspired Linda to open her own studio.
Linda loves taking portraits. She hopes her photographs will show people the way they really are. Find a minute to check out Linda's website and browse her gallery. You'll see that she's versatile, creative and very gifted.
