No Excuses: InBound Marketing is Free
Once again, Jeff Morgenthaler of Folio Communications hit one out of the ballpark with his second presentation in a two-part workshop centered on Social Media. In Part One, Jeff focused our attention on LinkedIn and in Part Two he shared great examples of how business owners could use Twitter to market their business for free.
Social
Media is such an interesting subject and sometimes, at first glance, it isn't
obvious to us that we too can use these internet innovations to promote our own
businesses. Thanks to the "keep it simple" approached employed by our subject
matter expert, attendees have no excuse for not giving Twitter a try. Tweeting
is free and InBound Marketing is one of the newest tools in our marketing
basket. Read more.
Send us stories about your company's
Twitter experiences and we'll share them with our other members.

School May be Out, But it Isn't Over
Mentoring High School Students: OJT
The Chamber's Business Education Council was visited last week by Kendall Reischling, the Coordinator for Champion High School's Work Based Learning Program. Reischling came representing both High Schools to ask Boerne businesses for help.
The economic downturn has touched nearly everyone, even if only at the gas pumps and the grocery stores. Many business owners have felt the squeeze too and Boerne ISD's Work Based Learning Program might be just the answer you are looking for and, in turn, your business may be the answer to their prayers as well. July Lunchbox Lesson Winning Webshare
How Successful Firms Compete for and Win the Hearts of Customers The web is more than a new medium, as it has revolutionized the field of marketing. Few organizations seem to "get it", focusing, at best, on details like graphic design or search engine performance while ignoring more important truths related to wooing prospects and customers. In the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce's July 20th Lunchbox Lesson, Mark Figart discussed the four principles behind today's most successful online marketing efforts, and which apply to organizations of all sizes. Are You Buying It?
The Boerne Chamber has repeatedly advocated shopping with not only Boerne Chamber members but all local businesses large, small, independently-owned and franchises, in Boerne and in the surrounding county. We urge this because we know that Boerne businesses share much in common with people who live in this community. Boerne is our present, our past and our future. Read more.

Chamber Briefs
Boerne Auto Dealers Form Alliance
For the first time, seven dealerships in Boerne have formed an alliance, the Boerne Auto Group (BAG), effectively leveraging the strength of their combined brands to create a convenient destination for area buyers looking to purchase new and pre-owned cars, trucks and RVs. Together, Ancira Pontiac - Buick- GMC Truck, Ancira Motor Homes, Boerne Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Cavender Chevrolet, Jennings Anderson Ford, Mercedes Benz of Boerne and Toyota of Boerne offer convenience and inventory -- 2500 vehicles from a wide variety of manufacturers all within in a quarter-mile area. Just minutes from Loop 1604, the new alliance has made Boerne a competitive destination for area buyers. The slogan, "It's in the BAG," identifies the joint effort and communicates both the ease and the comprehensiveness of product and service offered to consumers through the new group. "We are delighted to see this kind of working arrangement between the dealerships, because together they've greatly enhanced the value of their respective brands by adding convenience, variety and competitive pricing into the mix," said Paula White, president and CEO of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce. "We wish them great success." The dealerships can be found just a few miles south of town on IH-10 West, at exit 543.
Another Source for Homemade Ice Cream
Did you know that Stuart Perlitz is offering homemade ice cream at the Boerne Grille? From the base to the freezer his ice cream is made in house from scratch. This means he starts with milk, cream, sugar & eggs. He uses all natural ingredients with a high yolk to dairy ratio. In fact his ice cream could just as easily be regarded as frozen custard. The ice cream is frozen in small batches using a lightning fast batch freezer insuring optimum freshness & creaminess. Ask about his new flavors for this summer. He'll be offering Butterscotch Pecan, Blackberries & Cream (how good does that sound?), Cool Creamy Mango, Chocolate Raspberry and his latest iteration of Pecan Pie Ice Cream. Check out Stuart's beautiful website and line up for Stuart's cool scoop on staying comfortable this summer. Boerne ISD Rainwater Harvesting Program Receives Governors Award
The Rainwater Harvesting Program at Boerne Independent School District's Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School received the state's first honors for excellence pertaining to water conservation by the Governor of Texas and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The Rainwater Harvesting Program is the first and only of its kind in Texas school systems. Developed by Jeff Haberstroh and architects for the project Kent Neimann, Mark Oppelt, and landscape designer Alex Garza the innovative water harvesting network combines two elevated storage tanks and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning condensate with an 800-foot long underground pipe that's five feet in diameter. Together, the system can hold 224,000 gallons of water, with the potential of saving the school district an estimated $48,000 per year. Officials estimate that the project should pay for itself in less than five years.
Champion High School also uses the collection system as part of its outdoor classroom curriculum for the science department, giving students valuable hands-on training of environmental stewardship. In the school district's own words, it views water not only as a natural resource, but also a cherished commodity.
For more information visit or call Boerne Independent School District at 830-357-2066.
