     Last week our Government Affairs Council made a trip to Washington D.C. to speak with a number of our legislators. Mr. John Gonzalez of JDG Associates here in Boerne and Mr. Robert Imler, both Chamber Government Affairs Council members and I traveled with a group of other Chamber executives and business owners from across the state of Texas to the bi-annual Texas Association of Business National Affairs Conference.

Lunchbox Lessons
A New Chamber Program

Offering (Mostly Free) Seminars

      The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce is committed to promoting, representing and serving the small businesses that are an integral part of business in Boerne and to enhance the economic health of Boerne's small business community. 
      The  Business Education Council's new monthly Lunchbox Lessons program provides both large and small business owners with access to education and training, as well as wonderful networking opportunities.  Read more.
     
June's Lunchbox Lesson #2:  ServSafe is being held at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Sysco Foods has been contracted to put on this two day class that is vital in the food service industry. The class is going on today thru tomorrow (June 16 - 17) from 8 am to 5 pm. 
     With rules in place that every facility who serves food requiring someone on staff to be ServSafe certified, this is an excellent opportunity for restaurants and others in the food industry to comply. There is a fee for this two day certification course.

The City of Boerne Wants You! 
City Adopts Camp Bullis 338th Military Intelligence Battalion
Uncle Sam Clip     
      The City of Boerne is asking everyone to come out and help Boerne honor our adopted 338th MI Battalion from Camp Bullis on Sunday, June 29th at the "Kick-off Party". 
      The fun begins at 5:00 pm in Main Plaza, Boerne.  There will be food, fun and entertainment for people of all ages.  "Cedar Fever" and the "Boerne Concert Band" will be performing.  This event is free to the public.
      The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers and accepting donations in kind and/or cash.

     More than 200 graduates of Leadership Boerne were celebrated at the May 21 Commencement Ceremony of the 9th Graduating Class.  When the first class met in 2000, each member knew that they were about to participate in a groundbreaking, life-changing program, and every graduate since has known the same thing.  Read more.

Chamber Awards Scholarships to Three Outstanding Boerne Seniors 
Graduate Web Photo      The Chamber proudly supports continuing education by awarding scholarships to graduating Boerne seniors. This year, the Chamber awarded $2,000 scholarships as an investment in the future of three Boerne High School graduates.

This is where the Greater Boerne  of Commerce will hold the 2008 Aubrey E. "Sandy" Sanderson Golf Tournament & Par-tee on September 25. This event is a fund raiser for the scholarship fund named after one of Boerne's great volunteer icons, the late Aubrey E. Sanderson.  Read more.

Beca Short Web Photo      The Business Education Council held it's second meeting at Morningside Ministries and we would like to thank them for the hospitality.  
       We interviewed numerous candidates for the Sandy Sanderson Memorial Scholarship and the John Ebner Memorial Scholarship.  We are pleased to award three $2,000 scholarships to the following applicants:  Ryan Vinall, Kurt Richardson and Danielle Fudger.  We would also like to thank Audra Miller for her timeless effort as our scholarship chair person.

Senator Jeff Wentworth, Dr. Bob Lyons of Texas A&M, Tommie Rhoad and Theresa Van Booven of GBRA, Joe Freeman and Johnny Oswald of the State Soil & Conservation District, Dusty Bruns of the Kendall Soil & Conservation District, Travis Sabine, State Representative Nathan Macias's Chief of Staff, Melissa Grote and George Cunningham of the Perdenales SWCD, Fred Bartel, local rancher and Range Management Award winner and Bob Schwab, local rancher all contributed to an action plan which will provide Kendall and other Hill Country Counties with the funding to make Brush Management happen.

Julianna Boxwell, Jefferson Bank

Julianna Boxwell Web Head Shot     Julianna was born in Houston Texas and worked for Fulbright and Jaworski, a law firm, for 13 years.  She is married and has two children.  
      Julianna started working at Jefferson Bank in San Antonio in 1997 where she worked as a Mortgage Loan Processor for almost 5 years.  Her family then moved to Katy, Texas and lived there for 4 years where she worked for another Bank as an Assistant Vice President.  They are now very happy living in Boerne where she is an Assistant Vice President/Branch Manager for the newly opened Jefferson Bank in Boerne. 
      Julianna has served on several Chamber committees and is the Co-Chair for the Ambassador Council.  Congratulations and thanks for your hard work Julianna.
