Greetings!
We are back BOG family!! We've missed you so much these past couple of months. Missed blessing you, hearing from you and sharing with you. It is funny how life sometimes takes us on unexpected twists and turns. Events, tragedies, good news, bad news, people and strange circumstances often will present itself to us and we are left emotionally and/or spiritually paralyzed. What is important to remember during these times is that God is not surprised, nor does He ever change. The Creator, our Savior, the Faithful One - remains the same. Whatever changes you may be facing today, no matter how tumultuous it may seem, remember that God is our ROCK. He doesn't change - thorough and true - inside and out. Be sure to tune into our radio show as we talk about restoration. We serve a God who RESTORES. Be blessed!!
Much love,
Lee Watts |

Building Meaningful Relationships with Your Children
by TeAnna Brown
God created us for relationship and gave us a desire for nurturing relationships. We usually seek to develop or maintain good relationships with people we believe we can benefit from, like spouses, co-workers, family and friends, and the Lord. It is good to do that - we are called to do that - but I am concerned that our children aren't always included in that list.
I noticed that I spend a good deal of time instructing my children how to behave in their daily relationships. I teach my children to respect their elders, to listen to their teachers, to love (not fight) their siblings and friends, etc. But in all that relationship building - I often neglect investing the time that it takes to personally build a meaningful relationship with them.
What is True Biblical Relationship? The good news is that I have a Heavenly Father who is my perfect model for relationship building and parenting. He showed us how to welcome relationships with little ones when He instructed that they not be hindered from coming to Him (Matthew 19:14). I am encouraged as I think about how He even pursues me daily for relationship. He is my relational teacher reminding me of the grace and love He pours into me so that it can be poured into others.
So what is true Biblical relationship? It is a purposeful joining together of two willing people that is both vulnerable and sincere. With believers, that connection should include an atmosphere of love, grace and unconditional acceptance that encourages both people to be exactly who they are. Please understand that having a Biblical relationship with your children does not look like friendship...yet. As parents, we enjoy different roles at different stages in their lives. When our children are small, we are the main authority in their lives. When they become adults, God becomes the main authority in their lives so we can enjoy a friendship with them as an honored advisor. My hope is that the relationship I build with my children now will cause them to want me as a friend/honored advisor when they are adults.

Women Food and God: My Review
by Kimberly Floyd
Take Back Your Temple
You may have heard of a new book called "Women Food and God" by Geneen Roth about compulsive overeating. I heard it was featured on Oprah, but I discovered it by accident while browsing popular books on Amazon. The title intrigued me, so I bought it.
But I stopped reading on page 16. More about that later, but first I want to share a conversation I read on an earlier page. The author has a retreat for women who compulsively overeat and this is what one attendee told her over dinner. It is startling:

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from My Children
(Part 2 of article from February issue)
by Theresa Sheets
Hearing God - Steps 3 & 4: Listen & "Listen Good" When Alexa was about four, we were out running errands one day. We had finished buying a few things at a small discount store and were leaving to finally go home. When I looked down to make sure that my daughter was beside me as we crossed the street to the car, she wasn't there. I turned around and saw her standing a few feet behind me at the door to the store's entrance. She was waiting to open the door for an older woman who appeared to have a mild physical disability, for her walk across the parking lot was slow and labored. I watched my daughter as she patiently watched the woman coming toward her. At just the right moment, Alexa pulled the heavy door open so that she could enter. The lady thanked her and Alexa came toward me, beaming. I, too, thanked her for her kindness and, to myself, marveled at the fact that she had anticipated a need and answered in true "What Would Jesus Do?" form. The Bible says "He calls his own sheep by name" and also that "the sheep listen to His voice." The passage in chapter ten of the Gospel of John goes on to say that His sheep will follow Him because they know His voice. In other words, the sheep, which already have a relationship with Him, are also already listening for Him to call them (by name, even) and give direction so that they may follow Him. How many times during our childhood did we hear, "You better listen, and listen good," only to sill have that stern warning go in one ear and out the other? Like Alexa beginning at age four, we just have to remember to listen for God's whisper to our heart, and then obey it. Pray and trust; listen and listen good so that you will know and hear the voice of God. How did I turn something so simple in to something so hard? My kids are the best teachers. I'm so glad I am home schooled. |
