Let's let the world know how much we love skateboarding, but more importantly, how the Gospel has changed our hearts!

2010...What's Coming

2010 logoIt's only 25 days into the new year it's already been full of life-changing events for so many. Unless you live under a rock, you have seen the devastation that impacted the island of Haiti January 12th.

Personally, for our family, the warfare was intense the first two weeks of 2010. Then a country only 680 miles away is struck with an earthquake that devastated not only Haiti but also the huge Haitian culture in our hometown of South Florida. Our offices are now shared with a temporary office for Samaritian's Purse with doctors and teams heading to Haiti daily.

We also have a new intern. We are happy to have Josiah on the team here for a season and looking forward to what the Lord will do in his life while he is here. He has already begin serving at our local skate ministry, spoken at Christian Skaters Boca, and will head to California with us next month. I am sure the skate scene in Cali will be happy to have him back for a bit.

Skate Missions have kicked off full-force and we look forward to many more in 2010. Plans are already in the works for Brazil, Pakistan, Sweden,  Uganda and Ecuador.  Our heart is to begin to raise support for those out there doing full-time mission work. Skaters like Brian Sumner, David Reasbeck, BFC, Untitled, and others have devoted their lives to sharing the Gospel. It is our desire to raise awareness to how they are serving and their needs.

We also want to get you involved!

Some are called to go, some are called to pray and some are called to support.

Pray about ways you might partner with us in 2010.

We hope to continue to equip and encourage those with a heart for skaters. 2010 plans include more resources for skate ministries and discipleship. The great commission tells us to "go and make DISCIPLES of all nations" and it is our heart to create resources to equip ministries to pour into skaters. Please pray that the Lord provides the resources and workers to make this a reality.

The 2009 Skate Conference was amazing and we look forward to 2010. We will again host our US Conference and have plans for Europe & Brazil. Our partner CS ministries in Africa, South Africa & the UK will also once again be hosting events as well. If you have a skate ministry, this is the one event in 2010 not to miss! We have been blessed to significantly reduce the cost this year to make it affordable for ALL who want to attend.

If you want to join the team making an impact in 2010? We are looking for skaters, ministry leaders, videographers, editors, and others who want to serve. If this is you, please feel free to email us at info@ChristianSkaters.com

HELP: Haiti & Children Around The Globe
Some of you may have heard about our new partnership with Compassion International. Compassion International is an incredible organization that does so much to impact the lives of so many. Compassion has been in Haiti for over 40 years and had many of the children and families in sponsorship affected. Compassion has been on the ground since day 1 and is working to bring HOPE to this area. Check out what they have been doing here.

Why do we partner with Compassion? Christian Skaters partners with ministries in 90% of the locations where Compassion has projects. We have seen first hand what Compassion does in the lives of the children in these areas. Many of us dream about changing the world. For just a little over $1 a day we can make a lasting impact in the life of a child. We might not be able to change the world, but that small sacrifice will change a child's world. Join us and together we can make a difference.

ECUADOR
Ecuador - Join Touch the World Ministries and our friends at Solid Foundation in New Jersey for a Skate Mission to Ecuador July 13-18, 2010.

Your Mission:
Make the Quito, Ecuador skatepark skate-able again! Encourage and build up this skate scene both physically and spiritually. Once the construction projects are finished, your team will host a skate contest for the locals. Share what God has done in your life with each new friend you make.

Start saving up your used [but in good shape] decks, trucks, wheels, shoes, etc. Bless the locals with some "new" gear! In Quito, many kids share boards and shoes - if they even wear shoes at all! Your simple gift can make a great impact on the lives of young skaters in Ecuador. Interested in joining the team? Cost is $1050 plus airfare and you must be at least 16 years old.

bannerGUATEMALA - The 2009 CS Skate Mission team helped build skate ramps and kick off the ministry. This set into motion a Skate Outreach which is where IHS are skating with the local kids a few times a week and holding a weekly skater Bible study. Six of our regular skaters just made decisions for Christ in December!

The 2010 team will build upon this solid foundation by helping us use skateboarding as a platform to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to strengthen our witness to the local skate culture. What will you be doing? Serving at a reginal skate contests, skating at school demos, and more! If you have a passion to come and serve God through this event. NEWS:
bannerChrist 4 Life to open new indoor facility in Colorado Springs
We are so excited about this recent email we received from our friends in Steamboat..."When we started sk8 church 5 years ago God gave us an amazing vision for a place in Steamboat Springs that would give the youth a positive, sober place to belong and be encouraged in their sport of skateboarding. A place that anyone in our community can go to find help, hope, love, teaching, encouragement, and a friend. A place that is for youth, built by youth, where they can find rest for their souls and a break from their burdens. A home base for Sk8 Church. An office out for the basement for me, additional Bible studies, youth recovery meetings....oh the list goes on!!For a long while we wrestled with the fact that God had not brought this place, and eventually settled in to the fact that we just did not know when it was going to happen. We moved forward, and have had an incredible time, with meeting in our home, local hotels, wherever we could, steadily building our community of friends, and continually praying for that sweet vision God gave us.Even though we did not know when it would happen Buck was always faithful in searching out EVERY commercial spot in town over the years. He has passed out countless numbers of our vision packet to almost every realtor in town. Many, many times this proved futile and even frustrating over the last 4 years, until recently..........3 months ago, on his never ending quest, Buck gave one of our packets to the owners of Steamboat Powersports, explained the mission of SK8 church and went on his way.  Two months later, out of nowhere, we received a call from the owners expressing an interest in meeting to discuss sk8 for one of their properties. After many meetings, much discussion, and generosity that ONLY can be explained by God's intervention, we have a home for sk8 church!!   4,800 square feet of home!  Located at Riverside plaza, this space allows us to have 2000 square feet of skate park. 2400 square feet of lounge/gaming area, lots of food, video games, pool, ping pong, music, offices and enough space to minister to many more kids. The space is on the bus route and located in an easy to get to plaza, but out of the way enough that we won't be bothering too many people! It means that in the coming months all of you have an incredible opportunity to help impact this community with us! It means that you will get a chance to use your gifts and skills to help us help kids. Imagine a young man or woman from a fatherless home (the majority of our group) having the opportunity to work side by side with a father  figure. Being able to learn a skill, be praised for a job well done, and have the feeling of accomplishment." Please be praying for this new indoor ministry and if you are in the area....GET INVOLVED! http://www.christforlifeskatechurch.com

Skate Ministry in Boulder, Colorado
bannerSince we are on the Colorado trend, let's check out what's happening in Boulder....
Uriel is a pro skater that has pursued his call in ministry. Here is an update about what he has been doing: "
Last night I picked up 25 kids with the new skate bus that was donated to my ministry! We have been doing the skate church at a small church in south Denver called Light of Christ church  (I am a youth leader on Wednesday nights for their youth group). I also do a skate night for their youth group and every other Wednesday, I do the message for the whole youth group.
So we start skating and having fun together and I got some pizza's for us and we did a Communion together with pizza and lemonade, it was pretty rad. We had about 30 kids skating in this little room is not easy, but it ended up alright.  I had asked Cole (one of the kids that comes all the time), who is growing so much in his faith, to lead worship. It was his first time and he killed it and played two songs! Then, another kid named Micah (16), who is the most amazing skateboarder and does all my skate demo's with me, wanted to share his testimony! He shared how God radically changed him and set him free from porn and lusting after women, and told everyone how God used me to reach him! He shared about prov. 31, how that's the woman that you need. It was so rad! Then I shared a little more and felt that the Lord wanted us to all get on our knees and repent of our sins. I started praying and the Holy Spirit just showed up!! I just started to speak the Word and minister to them, and it was like God was just revealing things about each of our hearts and how we need to repent! People started crying and confessing their sins, and then Cole ended it with this super rad song about laying down everything in your life to Jesus!! IT WAS SO EPIC!! There was just joy and peace afterward! So then, of  course, we were all pumped to skate some more and we finally left at 11.  We all get back in the bus and i put on delirious and we all start rocking out and getting all crazy praising God, singing this song as loud as possible,  "I'M NOT ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL I'M NOT ASHAMED OF THE ONE I LOVE!!" I believe with all my heart that God is super naturally blessing this ministry so much. I can hardly believe it! Oh, and this Thursday we're going to a meeting so see about finally getting a warehouse!! Please pray for that and that God will continue to provide and watch over this me, my family, these kids, and SkateMinistry! " To find out more about Uriel and the skate ministry in Boulder click here.

EcquadorSkate Ministry in Quito, Ecuador
Our friends and CS family the Luginbills, serve full-time in Quito running a Skate Church. Here is a blurb from their latest update. "We received a nice write-up in a local Christian magazine.  Two professional skaters from Untitled Skateboards, Jud Heald and Jared Lee, are coming in February to hold a contest/demo/outreach with us. This outreach has HUGE potential and I hope
you'll join us in praying that God will use this event on Saturday, Feb. 20."

JosiahNew Intern @ The CS Office
Yes, we have a new intern here at Christian Skaters. Josiah is 19 and a great skater...plus he has some great web skills. We hope to have a revamped site soon (if we can get him up before 3pm - ha! ha!)

Meanwhile, he will be serving at our church graphic ministry, the park and helping with odds & ends at the CS office.

We hope to get him our traveling a bit more too on some Skate Missions.

So, if you are interested in helping us keep him close....Check out his private lessons at Ramp 48, his beanie company USKO, or hire him to design a site.

bannerPublic Skatepark Development Guide
Hundreds of new skateparks are being built every year. It is a boom era for public skateboarding facilities. However, no public skatepark has ever been built without a group of dedicated advocates promoting the project. This new book encourages and guides people through the skatepark process.
Skatepark advocacy is usually a lonely effort. Groups have been isolated in their activity and were required to research the most effective ways to build support for their project. The non-profit organization, Skaters for Public Skateparks (SPS), was founded in 2004 to address the need for accessible skatepark advocacy information and now reaches thousands of advocates across the world. Until the creation of SPS, precious few resources existed to support the cause. Now a single, comprehensive book guides the advocate from the early stages of envisioning, through planning and development, all the way to managing the open facility.
The Public Skatepark Development Guide is the world's first comprehensive instructional manual on skatepark advancement and is a publishing collaboration between the International Association of Skateboard Companies, Tony Hawk Foundation, and SPS. The Guide presents the collected wisdom of dozens of the nation's most effective skatepark proponents and expertly discusses every stage of skatepark creation.
