MISSION TO AFRICA
Help us encourage LIBERIA
bannerLast news we mentioned that Uli and Joe will head to Liberia in June. We are asking for your help. The cost of the trip is $6,000. They have only raised $1,000 total to date. We know that in this economy you may be hesitant to donate, but we can guarantee that an investment in God's kingdom always brings great return. Please prayerfully consider partnering with us on this mission. Whether it is $5 or $500, we appreciate your support.

Why Liberia? 13 years of civil war in Liberia did incredible damage to the country. It killed people, destroyed villages, and also destroyed infrastructure. This will be the trip of a lifetime as they head to encourage the 10+ churches planted in this area of Africa. The team will walk 60 miles total and pour into those ministering in areas deviated by wars. Please pray about partnering with them. Liberia is not heavily traveled due to the destruction & dangerous conditions. Prayer partners are needed. Consider emailing Uli and Joe letters of encouragement. The cost of the trip is $6,000. If you feel led to partner with us by donating any amount, please send checks directly to Calvary Chapel with Uli & Joe - Liberia in the memo: Calvary Chapel, 2401 W Cypress Creek Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 or donate online at http://www.causes.com/ChristianSkaters with a note for Liberia.
WALKING THE WALK
Brian Sumner on Pornography
bannerBrian Sumner talks about Pornography with Steelroots. Said to be everyman's battle, The threat of addiction to pornography is one that makes adults uncomfortable.
Addiction to pornography begins innocuously enough for most teens, but ends with the serious ramifications that any addiction brings. Usually it can start with an innocent encounter such as comments at school, something a friend's older sibling has hidden. Curiosity can turn to a thrill. The thrill of the emotions, which are not easily controlled by a developing teenager, and the thrill of getting away with something they (hopefully) know to be wrong contribute.

However the addiction is not just limited to teenage boys, pornography affects everyone. Churches like xxxchurch.com have launched to address these issues.Download this free resource for addressing the issue at your ministry.

GOD IS BIGGER THAN THE SWINE FLU

bannerRockey Mountain Calvary Chapel is planning a trip to Mexico. With all the hype about the Swine Flu, they believe that we serve a BIGGER God. They are taking a youth missions team to Chihuahua,Chihuahua city Mexico (an area unaffected by the Swine Flu virus) this June 13 thru 23rd. They are looking for any skaters with testimonies that could come along and do ministry outreaches at local skate parks. This is a fairly large city of around 1 million people and they have 3 large concrete skate parks throughout the city,we are planting a Calvary Chapel in the main city there and it would help tremendously to do these outreaches, There are many youth, probably hundreds of skaters. If you are interested email James Borja at jamesb@rmcalvary.org
GOD AT WORK
Missions with Christ4Life

Christ4LifeWe were blessed to meet Buck and Tara at the 2007 Skate Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We are always blessed to hear the updates from their ministry and it is a constant reminder of why we are called to equip and encourage others to reach skaters around the globe.

Here is an excerpt from the update about their latest mission trip to reach the homeless in Denver.

"I always want to share all the amazing things that happen on these trips, but there is one story that has stayed with me all week. When we travel we always take my big suburban and some borrowed or rented van. I drive the suburban and usually have the outcasts that want a little bit smaller (and less stinky) drive! In my car this trip there were 2 girls that are both 17. One shows her scars in an outward, abrasive, messy manner. Her life has been hell from the time she was born, and she has only been taught destruction and hardness. The other girl is very sweet, overly cooperative, and tries to look as "normal" as possible. She has lived the same hell, but tries so hard to make things "nice" around her. They are both born and raised in Steamboat with no father in sight.

As they were talking in my car they mentioned that their mom's have always known each other and always partied together. They broke into a memory about "sleep overs" they used to have. They both chuckled uncomfortably at the memory. When I ask what they mean they tell me that their mom's would leave them alone to go out and would not come back for a day or 2. 2 DAYS!!!! They would sleep in the same bed because they were scared, and hungry. They were in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade.

My heart ached and tears welled in my eyes. I COULD NOT imagine leaving my babies anywhere and when I can see the visible scars that these 2 little girls carry around I can not fathom what Jesus' heart feels like. When we went to bed that night (at 5:00 am) one of the girls asks me to rub her head while she falls asleep. She has never experienced appropriate touch from anyone in her entire life. They stayed in my car the whole trip and I got to see them unguarded and young. That is absolutely my favorite thing; to see them be vulnerable, young and trusting. It is in that place that I can show them a God that loves them beyond words and whose heart is broken by how they have been treated. It is in this place that they have given their hearts to Jesus and are starting to trust Him and and trust us. A big step for someone that can not trust one single person in their lives.

Unfortunately their story is not uncommon. We see it everyday. I thank God that we get to be His hands and feet and show this broken culture who He is and how much He loves them. The short trips we take to Denver help us get to know them so much better. We have many teachable moments and can love them so much. Often times we wonder if all the things we go through (2 hours sleep in 2 days, smelly feet, BO, bad language, spitting, smoking, finances, heart ache etc) are making a difference. And then Buck was reminded that it was on one of these trips that our friend Chongo accepted Christ 2 years ago! He is in heaven because of a weekend we were able to spend together....

We took our group of 16 on a 2 hour walk around Denver to see where homeless youth hang out, sleep, and do life. At each sobering stop he would share how Jesus loves people and how we are called to do the same. He told the story of the woman to demonstrate how they love on the street kids of Denver. How they stop and listen and love them and share of a God who does the same. Dry Bones serves dinner every Thursday down at the park where the kids hang. The rest of their time is spent taking kids to coffee, court, doctors visits, lunch, dinner, jail visits and just showing up where they are. We were on the free bus and a handful of street kids got on and gave the dry bones guys a big hug and shared a bit of life with them. It was very similar to sk8 Church and I was so encouraged by their hearts and it has refreshed my passion for loving people where they are. We are excited to continue to partner with them!

After our tour we ended at the Denver Sk8 Park downtown. We had packed some sandwich stuff, waters and fruit to give to dry bones, but our kids were excited to serve so they initiated and made the sandwiches and handed them out at the sk8 park. They also took all the snacks and water that I packed for each car and gave those away too! I was like a proud parent watching the kids that we have served for 4 years feeding other skaters that they didn't know! All in al,l another fruitful time and we are excited about the continued fruit that will come..."
