OCYC: You love skateboarding. WHY?
LM: I love skateboarding
because it was a fun toy the first time I rode one- it was on my own
pace and I could challenge or give myself an adrenaline rush with out a
coach & others relying on me, or a first or last place finish. It
gave me a sense of freedom as I adventured out on it finding new places
to do it. It gave me a challenge as I tried new things on it. It gave
me a group of friends and a belonging as I tried to find my place and
acceptance in life.
Skateboarding was really looked down at as I was
growing up. If I was around kids at school, grown ups, teachers or at
church, I got the looks and feeling of "When are you going to grow
up?", "Stop being irresponsible!", or even "How could you be a
Christian if you associated with these people?". This all gave me a
great sense of "I can't focus on what people think of me".
And slowly I grew up with the sense that only what
is pleasing to God ultimately matters. Skateboarding gave me the avenue
to have and provide for a family. Most importantly, I love
skateboarding because following your dreams and your heart- and the
struggle of putting the Lord first is really what life it is all about.

| MEET: Intern Mark
|
 God blessed us with an intern and we are stoked! So, click here and give Intern Mark a BIG welcome.
Mark is from Missouri. Last summer he was a leader of Newheart skatechurch in his hometown, a pastor of youth at Newheart Worship Center, graduated high school, and worked at River Valley Ranch summer camp as a Skate camp Counselor.
Mark was a team rider for Hero skateboards for 2 years but now skates on the Endurance flow team.
Mark will be helping at the East Coast Christian Skaters office and also helping at our local skatepark ministry, Ramp 48.

PRAY: Dundee, Scotland - UK Conference
|
 Christian Skaters US will be arriving in Scotland today to encourage skate ministries around the UK & Europe in partnership with Christian Skaters UK at the UK Skate Conference Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
We ask for your prayers for their travels, their family, and that the Lord may use them mightily to encourage and equip others in Europe to reach skaters with the love of Jesus Christ.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
"We were amazed at the response to the event last year, as over 60
leaders from 6 countries involved in skate ministry traveled to the
event. As a group we continue to see God do some amazing things
through skate ministry, and we want to continue to envision both young
and old in the UK, by seeing what God is doing with skate communities
throughout the UK and Ireland. We are excited about the opportunity to
hear of what God is doing further afield as well and are expecting
leaders again to attend from South Africa, America and mainland Europe.
We know God is changing lives through Skate ministry and we want to
move forward with this ministry. This is a significant weekend, as part
of that vision, a weekend full of praise, worship, fellowship, great
speakers and opportunities to use the fantastic skatepark"
