• The 1st ever Skateboarding Ministry Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico this September to equip youth pastors and those with a heart for skaters to share the love of Christ through skateboarding
• We are working with various ministries to publish a skater focused Bible jammed packed with testimonies & devos from some of today's top skate
• Christian Skaters feels called to equip others to reach skaters around the globe. We will do this by raising funds to bring teams to areas that are in need of places for youth to skate, building ramps and coming alongside those with a heart to share the love of Christ with skaters. We will encourage and equip those who are beginning to start ministries of their own in the US & Europe. And, we will come alongside ministries like Creationfest UK, Luis Palau, South Florida Fest & more to host demo parks for outreach.
• · The Frallicciardi Family will serve as missionaries at the upcoming Nashville Cityfest alongside Palau's Livin It Team. Please pray for them as they are feeling called into full-time skate missions
• · Mike will take a team of skaters to England this August to serve at Creationfest and host outreaches around Devon
• · We have been asked to do various demos this summer. Pray that the Lord might provide a passenger van, trailer and demo ramps so that we might help outreach for these various ministries
• · We have been asked to serve the families of soldiers deployed in the war by hosting demos for the youth at military bases around the US & in Japan. Please pray that the Lord will provide for this
• · We have been asked to help establish chapters in Africa, the Ukraine, Japan, Peru, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Argentina, Australia, Scottland, and various US locations. Pray that the Lord provides for staffing to be launched as missionaries to serve on a full-time basis. Current chapters include Honduradas, UK & US areas

Basically that means that there are just under 6,000 skaters per skatepark. Can you imagine a skatepark filled with 6,000 kids. It would be "utter mayhem".
Skateboarding is one of today's fastest growing activities. A well-built public park vastly exceeds popularity of tennis courts, football fields, baseball fields, and soccer field, but a park built without the right background will end up a ghost town and huge waste of public spending.
With this in mind, Skaters For Public Skateparks has worked with The Tony Hawk Foundation and The International Association of Skateboard Companies to create the Public Skatepark Development Guide. The books will be available for $5 starting mid April at www.publi cskateparkguide.org

Skateboarding has become a huge part of the youth culture today. You walk through the mall and see the influence it has had on fashion. Tony Hawk has become a household name, and, XGames is the largest viewed sporting event in the 13 to 24 age range. Twenty percent of young people in the US alone skateboard. That's over 15 million. To top that off, over 38 million more have expressed a desire to learn an "extreme sport."

Youth today are being bombarded by temptation. We see the statistics on youth involved in sexual activity, drugs, alcohol, and crime. These rates are alarming. In fact, youth ages 12-17 who are frequently bored are 50% more likely than those not often bored to smoke, drink, get drunk, and use illegal drugs. As recess is being cut from schools, our youth are replacing physical play for MTV and MySpace. As the youth culture turns more to media for stimulation, the need to focus on relationship-building is evident and crucial.

So, how do we reach these youth? Jesus met people right where they were at and continues to do that today. As pastors begin to see this cultural shift, this need to reach our youth with culturally relevant ministry becomes apparent. To meet this need, skate ministries have begun to pop up all over the world. Ministries like Skatechurch, Christian Skaters, Livin' It, Boarders for Christ and Steelroots have stepped up to the plate to present the gospel in a way that reaches this culture.

Maybe you are a pastor or parent who constantly finds themselves chasing skaters off there property. Maybe you have a heart for "the hippies of the 21st century" and want to reach out like Jesus did. Maybe you were a skater yourself and your heart breaks for those in the next generation. Or, maybe you have found yourself planted right in the middle of skate ministry and feel like you just need some help.

Christian Skaters hopes the first 2007 Skate Conference will meet all of your needs. From basic like how to start a skate ministry, to more advanced skills such as event planning or ramp building, we hope to answer all of your questions.

Paul Schmidt has taken the art of skateboarding engineering into the classroom. In the last 30 years, Paul has made over 10 million skateboards. Now, his new project takes the sports kids love into the classroom. CreateAskate.org is a program that teaches "learning by doing". To get a Create A Skate program in their school, students are required to organize, petition and rally parents and school boards. The 10 hour program is restricted to high schoolers actively enrolled in woodshop, design or art classes. There is also a $15 per student fee which students are encouraged to raise through recycling projects, car washes, bake sales, or other creative outlets. The petition process alone creates organization skills, interpersonal skills, creative thinking and more.

The Skater's Bible project is underway. Through a partnership with various ministries and pros, we are excited about the amazing potential of this project.
