Scholarship Awarded to
Johns Hopkins Student

We are pleased to announce that Rafe Reginald Ellison is the 2009-2010 recipient of a $1000 scholarship to the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School Real Estate Program. The scholarship endowment was established in 2003 from a matching grant in which MBA/MW contributed $10,000.

Below are excerpts from a letter received by MBA/MW from scholarship recipient Reggie Ellison.

Dear Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington:

Thank you for selecting me as recipient of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington Real Estate Finance Award.  I am extremely appreciative of the honor you have bestowed upon me and your recognition of my academic performance.

For eight years I worked for federal government agencies on affordable housing and community development policy, primarily involved in assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of federal affordable housing and community development programs and monitoring the federal agencies and government sponsored enterprises responsible for subsidizing and financing affordable housing units and community development projects.

After four years in this area, I decided I wanted more involvement in the development, financing and management of residential housing (affordable and market rate) and was interested in transitioning from the federal government to the private sector. I enrolled in the Carey Business School's Master of Science in Real Estate Program in January 2005 to obtain the real estate related skills and knowledge to effectively make this transition. I believe the knowledge gained through the program has complemented my policy and economic analysis skills to the benefit of my current career if I decide to continue in the federal government. I intend to pursue a career in real estate once the economy improves.

Again, I would like to thank you for selecting me for this prestigious award. I am truly grateful to be the recipient of the award.

Sincerely,
Rafe Reginald Ellison
