Neighborhood Restaurants Honored
The November 2011 issue of Howard magazine published the results of their 2011 Best in Dining poll. The winners are chosen based on votes by the magazine's readers throughout the county. Several neighborhood restaurants were honored, most notably Luna Bella restaurant in the Hickory Ridge Village Center. Luna Bella received Honorable Mentions in the Best Dessert and Best Service categories, and was named Best Italian, Best Pizza (tied with Ledo), and Best Overall Restaurant. Congratulations, Luna Bella!
Three other Hickory Ridge restaurants were recognized by Howard magazine as well. Peking Chef and Katana, both located in the Village Center, each earned an Honorable Mention in the Chinese and Sushi categories, respectively. Neighborhood coffee house Mad City earned an Honorable Mention in the Best Coffee category. Our community certainly has no shortage of excellent eateries! |

Safe Drug Disposal
If you weren't able to take advantage of the DEA drug take-back on October 29th, here are some helpful hints for proper disposal of old medication.
Please DO NOT flush unwanted medications down the toilet.
- Place pills or liquids in a plastic zip-top bag with coffee grounds, flour or kitty litter and put the bag in your regular trash. This makes the medicines undesirable and prevents toxins from contaminating our drinking water.
- Local pharmacies may offer take-back or mail-in programs. For example, Rite Aid ($3.99), CVS ($3.99), Walgreens ($2.99) and Giant sell prepaid envelopes that can be filled with unwanted medication and mailed to a facility that properly handles disposal.
- Visit www.disposemymeds.org and www.dhmh.state.md.us for additional information and details about prescription donation sites.
Once you have safely disposed of the medication, you can recycle your empty medicine bottles. Conceal or remove any personal information, including Rx number, by covering it with black permanent marker or duct tape, or by scratching it off.

Warfield Neighborhood Development
The Howard Hughes Corporation held a Pre-Submission Community Meeting on Thursday, October 27th, where they presented concept plans and materials regarding the proposed development and the Final Development Plan for three parcels of land adjacent to Columbia Mall. Two parcels are located just west of the mall ring road and east of Broken Land Parkway on the west side of the mall, and one parcel is north of the mall ring road between Little Patuxent Parkway and the north mall entrance road.
The pre-submission meeting did not show specific plans, designs, or details regarding any buildings to be built on the parcels. Rather, it explained the types of buildings that could be built, how parking could be hidden, the types of streetscapes that would be acceptable, the types of acceptable signage, etc.
There are multiple steps with multiple opportunities for community input before the Final Development Plan can be approved by the Planning Board and continue through the development process.
If you were unable to attend the meeting and would like to see the presentation materials, theyare available online at:
