Education:  Female Condoms
The female condom is a barrier method of preventing pregnancy and STIs.

By far, the most popular type of female condom is the FC2.  An earlier version of the female condom, called the FC, was made from polyurethane but the FC2 is made from nitrile.

Mouse in the House
Users of the FC reported a distinct "squeak" noise caused by friction between body and the polyurethane product.  Thanks to nitrile in the FC2, these sounds can be avoided.

Real Benefits
The FC2 is a robust product that has no special storage requirements.  It is not affected by temperature changes or dampness.  And the FC2 can be used with water- or oil-based lubricants.  Best of all, nitrile conducts heat well, which preserves sensation during use.

Practice Makes Perfect
Proper use is essential to the efficacy of any condom.  FC2 users report that while insertion may require some practice, it is equally important to remember to twist the outer ring during removal to avoid spillage and contamination.

While other female condoms exist, including the Cupid female condom in India, the FC2 remains the most popular.  In 2009, over 40 million units of the FC2 were sold in over 100 countries.

Awareness:  Valentine's Day 2012

Hoping for a box of chocolates or flowers on this upcoming Valentine's Day?  How about genital herpes, chlamydia or some other STI?

Thanks to aggressive campaigns, widespread availability of sexual health products and changing behaviours amongst groups of all risk categories, most people recognize the need to protect against STIs.

And while February is traditionally the month for romance, it is important to reinforce the need for safer sex.

STIs like chlamydia don't discriminate, are easily transmitted and often go undetected.

Consider themed products such as Pamco's red-coloured condoms and messages this Valentine's Day to communicate safe sex practices:

  • L    -Learn about your partner's sexual history.
  • O   -Obtain and use condoms or some other barrier product.
  • V   -Verify your health status by getting tested and treated for STIs.
  • E    -Encourage your partner to do the same ...

Spotlight On:

FC2

Did you know that the female condom has been available in North America since the 1990's?  A great alternative to the male condom, the female condom allows women to take charge of their health.  FC2 is Female Health Company's latest version of the female condom.  The FC2 is a one-time use female condom made from nitrile that provides dual protection from both STIs and unintended pregnancies.

When used correctly, the female condom provides broader physical protection than the male condom.
