"AUTOGAS Solutions"
Do you have Standard Cylinder Filling Pumps on Your Dispenser Stations; but can't generate enough Differential Pressure to Fill the New Autogas Vehicles?
Gas Equipment Company has a HDP (high differential pressure) Pump SOLUTION for you. Whether you are designing & installing a New System or retrofitting & upgrading an older pump with a New HDP pump; we can help you select the BEST Solution for your application.
If you are unaware; new OEM and after-market vehicle conversions that are utilizing liquid injection, require pumps to overcome higher than normal differential pressures in the tanks. Both Corken and Blackmer are manufacturing special high differential pressure (HDP) pumps specifically for the autogas and motor fuel refueling market.
GEC offers these HDP pumps for use in autogas dispensing applications.
For many of you, who already have made an investment in cylinder
dispensing equipment, you can economically upgrade your cylinder
dispensing station to HDP autogas dispensing by changing your
traditional cylinder pump for a HDP pump product. Additionally,
GEC offers a pump/motor skid to be mounted between the dispenser and tank to mount the larger HDP pump if it will not fit inside your
exisiting cylinder dispenser cabinet.
In addition to upgrading the pump and bypass valve for autogas applications GEC offers the GasGuard GG20 dispenser nozzle and a flush mount nozzle holster to attach to your existing cabinet for a dedicated autogas dispenser hose & safety valve. The holster and nozzle incorporates a means for locking the valve in the holster when unattended.
Introducing the newest of the HDP pumps for smaller applications, lower flow rates or lower differential pressures.
Blackmer LGL154A & Corken FF/DLF060
How do I select the right style & model Pump for my application? At GEC we get this question quite a lot. And there a number of factors that will help answer this question. Let's start with some of the variables.

Both manufacturers offer their HDP pumps in 3 different flow capacity and differential pressure capability sizes. Both manufacturers offer two types of mountings; base mounting and C-Face mounting. The base mounting style pumps are where the pump and the motor both bolt down to a base and must be properly aligned. A C-Face mounting is where the pump uses a C-Face style motor and the motor bolts up directly to the pump or a pump/motor flange adapter, insuring proper motor and pump alignment. For service technicians conducting field maintenance or repair in the field; it is highly recommended to select the C-Face option. This option also allows the marketer to direct mount either the motor or pump flange to a slab, mounting skid or other means without the additional cost of a motor/pump base.
Below is a table comparing the three different sizes of pumps operating at a specific differential pressures and their respective HP (horsepower) requirements for those operating specifications. Depending on your available service power, motors can be specified as single phase, three phase or you can use a phase convertor or VFD (variable frequency drive) with three phase motors with single phase service availability.

| TECH Topic
Protect your Investment &
Protect your Motor Warranty
If you are making investments in new pumps and motors for the Autogas market; make sure you are wiring your motors in accordance with the electrical codes. Motors 2 HP and over require thermal overload protection.
In addition to the thermal overload protection (usually provided within manual and magnetic starters) some motors utilize internal thermostats. These thermostats are designed to protect motors from internal overheating due to undersized service wiring, overloaded conditions or even low voltage issues. BUT, for the thermostats to function they must be utilized. For a thermostat to properly function it must be wired into the control circuit of a magnetic starter with either relays or a momentary start/stop switch. When the thermostats sense an overheat situation they open the control circuit, thus dropping out the magnetic starter relay and causing the motor to shut-down prior to being damaged. We find many times on motors returned for warranty issues that the installer has failed to utilize the protective thermostats, and in some cases voiding the motor warranty.
Another protection option we see quite regularly on LPG motors is internal motor heaters. These heaters are NOT to be confused with overload heaters you find in starters. Since LPG pump motors are cycled quite often in cold environments during the winter they generally experience condensation of humidity inside the motor housing which inevidently leads to a failed motor due to short-circuiting and freezing of the moisture on cold nights/days locking up the motor. When cold motors are started and stopped repeatedly they warm up and the cold humid air allows moisture to condense.
To prevent condensation from occuring in a motor; motor manufacturers have installed heaters inside the housing to keep the motors warm and dry when not running. This prevents the buildup of condensate inside the motor. But, just as the thermostats discussed above will not function if not connected; NEITHER will the HEATERS protect a motor from condensation if they are not connected to a power source. The heaters must be connected to a separate power source to function when the motor is NOT running. They are usually wired through a N/C (normally closed) relay on a magnetic starter so they are powered when a motor is NOT running; and shut off during the time the motor is running.
Below we illustrate a wiring diagram showing a remotely installed magnetic starter, an ESO (emergency shut-off) and a pump/motor installation that incorporates internal motor thermostats and motor housing heaters.

In this particular example with a 5HP, 1PH, 230VAC motor the wiring runs are defined as shown below and in the image:
Wire X - Leaving Starter & Connects To: L1 Line - motor conductor (either 1,8 for Std rotation or 1,5 for reverse rotation)
L2 Line - motor conductor (either 4,5 for Std rotation or 4,8 for reverse rotation)
Yellow dot Line - internal motor thermostats connect to J1 (TH1)
Blue dot Line - internal motor heaters H1, (H1 & H2 connected in series)
Solid Black Line - common for thermostats and motor heaters H2 & J2 (TH2)
Lg Black dot Line - E-Stop (in series with On/Off Switch)
Sm Black dot Line - On/Off Switch (return side)(other side in series with E-stop)

FEATURE Products:
Leak Test Gauge Re-Design.
Even though we offer Water Manometer Kits, Electronic Manometers, Low Pressure & High Pressure Test Kits, Presto-Tap Test Kits and Magnehelic Differential Pressure Gauges; one of the most popular with delivery drivers has been the high pressure tesk kit. Its simplistic design has been refined to a single hose test apparatus.
The Flexible block test apparatus with a 0-300 psig pressure gauge, vent valve, shut-off valve and Male POL x Femail POL connection has been redesigned.
The new design offered alongside the original design features only one flexible hose reducing the number of connections but still provides for a flexible connection and the ability to isolate the service valve when diagnosing leak location.
The FLEXIBLE BLOCK TEST KIT part numbers are:
LEAK TEST KIT - SINGLE (for single hose)
LEAK TEST KIT - DUAL (for 2-hose)
