Introducing a NEW SAFETY HOSE that addresses the devastating consequences related to drive-away acccidents that can occur in the LPG, NH3, and hazardous chemical industries!
"A hose assembly represents the weakest link in any LPG, NH3 or Hazardous Chemical transfer operation," said Bob Cardona Senior Engineer for Smart-Hose Technologies. "However, during a horizontal pull-away a 2" textile braided hose can exceed 12,000 lbs. of force before it breaks. At those forces plant plumbing, bulkheads and tank truck hard piping are at risk," explains Mr. Cardona.
The Smart-Hose Break-away is a 360 degree break-away. Designed with rugged shock proof annular seals and a built in bumper the Smart-hose Break-away works in conjunction with the Smart-Hose safety system. Equipped with schedule 80, 316 SS fittings and custom engineered break points the Smart-hose Break-away meets 5 to 1 burst specifications. Currently available in 2" Male NPT or Female NPT. It is designed to reduce plant and tank truck hard pipe damage associated with drive away incidents.
The part number for the 2" hose X 15 feet with break-away is: L3-32LP3X15FT-FBA

COPPER SULFATE CRYSTALS & ELECTRODES will not last forever!
Last month we discussed documenting underground tank installations and cathodic protection testing, using a standard form we provide. (For a copy of the Cathodic Protection Testing form, click on our e-Newsletters ARCHIVE link above and review the June-2011 e-Newsletter.) This month we will discuss simple and routine maintenance requirements for your cathodic testing equipment.
NOTE:
Under average conditions, an electrode should be emptied and cleaned out every two or three months. However, if the electrode is allowed to remain in prolonged contact with low resistivity soil or water, more frequent rejuvenation may be desirable. For consistent results, manufacturers recommend using the highest purity CuSo4 Crystal's possible.
Precautions:
· STORAGE:
CuSo4 will deteriorate over time. Electrodes, which are purchased in bulk and stored for later use, should always be checked before placing into service. Copper rods can become tarnished or pitted by deteriorating CuSo4 and the CuSo4 will become unusable. The copper in this condition will become contaminated, which will cause inaccurate readings. CuSo4 should have a rich, deep blue color. If the crystals appear to have become whitened or have the appearance of being dehydrated, discard in a safe manner and replace with fresh. Do not store the electrodes in a damp atmosphere. Some types of fungus or mold can contaminate the ceramic plug assemblies. Always rotate your stock using the "FIFO" (First In, First Out) method.
· COMMON SOURCE OF ERROR:
The voltmeter used in conjunction with reference electrodes should be of sufficiently high impedance (10 megohms or greater) so that contact resistance, which can occur between electrode and soil, does not affect readings. When taking readings, the ceramic plug must come in contact with soil. Vegetation such as grass should be moved out of the way. Grass or other items will add resistance and result in inaccurate readings. Reference electrodes are designed to be durable, but over time, the ceramic plug assembly will become contaminated by foreign materials and become worn or cracked. At this point, the replacement of the ceramic plug assembly is highly recommended. If the CuSo4 mixture within the electrode becomes cloudy white, reverse osmosis has occurred and rejuvenation is recommended.

GEC stocks and distributes replacement copper sulfate crystals and replacement copper sulfate electrodes to keep your cathodic protection testing equipment in optimum working condition.

"Did You Know?"
Section 6.9.4.7, Installation of PE Pipe, Tubing & Fittings was revised in 2011
Section 6.9.4.7 was revised in the 2011 edition to clearly state that the polyethylene pipe or tubing in container domes must be protected from damage and fire. This includes PE in the dome of an underground tank.
In other words any PE pipe brought into the dome of an underground container, or any other below ground enclosure shall be completely encased in one of the following: gastight metal pipe and fittings that are protected from corrosion or an anodeless riser.
This new revision will prevent the use of a PE transition fitting or copper to PE pipe copperserts within an underground vault or container dome.
Anodeless Servi-Sert Field Assembled All-Flex Risers make the perfect in-dome or in-vault connection for underground installations.

NEW PRODUCTS:

Manchester Tank has unveiled its new unique one-pound refillable cylinder. It will improve the way the landscaping and camping markets operate, as they transition from expensive disposable propane cylinders to refillables.
Part #: CYL1-M
The one-pound refillable cylinder is convenient, economical, efficient, and environmentally friendly; it will help to reduce the mountains of disposable cylinders discarded each year into landfills. And, the one-pound refillable cylinder pays for itself with just 16 hours of use.
Applications for a Refillable Propane Cylinder
The extensive research and design put into the development of this one-pound refillable cylinder lends its use to recreational, industrial, and commercial outdoor power equipment applications. Commercial uses include lawn care equipment such as leaf blowers, string trimmers, generators, weed burners; hand torches, forklift applications, and plumbing. Recreational uses include camping appliances such as lanterns and small heaters and portable cooking appliances such as grills and hot plates.
For landscapers, there are two ways to adopt propane: buy an original equipment manufacturers (OEM) propane mower or lawn trimmer, or convert gasoline mowers and other gasoline-powered equipment to run on propane.
Various service companies, including propane marketers use torches for soldering water and refrigeration lines, and for lighting pilots. The greatest frustration is when they run out of propane for those torches. It is such a waste to throw away cylinders and buy new ones for small appliances. That prompted the idea to develop a one-pound refillable cylinder.
Manchester started with valve development, and was challenged with fitting a lot of features and functions into such a small valve without compromising its durability, while at the same time making it light enough to use.
Distinguishing Characteristic - Shut-Off Valve
The most distinguishing feature of the one-pound refillable cylinder that sets it apart from its competitors is its positive shut-off valve.
Disposable cylinders can sustain damage to their valves, leaving no way to shut-off the flow of gas from the cylinder. The only option is to leave the disposable cylinder hooked to the piece of equipment, or let it leak until the cylinder is empty. With the Manchester refillable cylinder, you don't have that problem because, in the event of a damaged valve, the flow of propane can be stopped by turning the valve to its off position.
The cylinder valve is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed and patent pending. The fill adaptor is intentionally designed so it cannot be used to fill a disposable cylinder.
How does it get refilled?
Manchester's UL Listed Fill Adapter and hose assembly can be fitted to the liquid valve of a forklift cylinder with connection at the 7141M adapter. It is designed to work on Manchester 1 pound refillable cylinders only; preventing filling of disposable cylinders.

RegO 8555/6555D&R Series Fixed Liquid Tube Change
RegO has added a stainless steel washer to the end of the fixed liquid level tube on all 8555/6555 Series vapor service multivalves. The stainless steel washer is permanently affixed to the end of the fixed liquid level tube; it will remain in place even in rough service applications like construction sites. This change has been made to divert the liquid away from the opening of the vent tube to improve accurate readings from the fixed liquid level gauge during the filling process.
The part numbers and prices on our 8555/6555 Series multivalves remain unchanged.

GEC "Virtual Warehouse" Feature
Searching & Selecting Products
The GEC virtual warehouse has at least six options for you to use to search for products.
First you can select the Product Application Links (1) on the left side of the page, which opens up to sub-categories. Or in the Search field (2) up near the top, you can type in a key word or part number (this will search all of our stock inventory whereas the product application links only view assigned parts). If you already know the part number, type it in the Quick Pad (3) section. It will automatically add a quantity of one to your cart (where you can modify the quantity if needed). A fourth way to search for product is if you have previously ordered the items. You can click on the Reorder Pad (4) and every item you have ordered in the last 365 days will be listed and you can narrow your search of those previously ordered items. Or under My Account (5), you can select Order History, choose a previous order, and copy that order to your cart. And the sixth way is using the My Product Groups (6) selection. You can set up groups of your most commonly ordered products giving you easy access to them by application groups; such as regulators, Gastite, PE pipe, brass fittings and so on. (for more information on Product Groups, select our Archive link at the top and review our April-2011 issue of the e-Newsletter.)

TIPS After searching and finding a list of products, click on the item's description to see more information about that product.
You can change how the results page looks by selecting to View Items as Thumbnails (with images) or as Text-only (in table format with one product per line). You can change the number of items to display using the links and drop-down box at the end of the results page. You can setup your default view on the My Account > My Settings page.
SEARCH In the search box, you can enter keywords, and/or item numbers. Click GO, and a product return page containing products that match your search terms will displayed.
By default, the search results show any products that match the first part of all keywords you enter. If you want an exact match on a specific keyword, put a period "." before the keyword.
A list of pages containing the results are listed in the upper right of the main body of the page. If you have searched a general keyword that returns a very large number of options you may see a screen that states, "Your search for "VALVE" returned too many results. Please try a more refined search." On this screen you also have an option to select, "View the Most Popular Items for "VALVE". This will return the most popular choices for that keyword.
If you still get back too many results to be useful, try using the Narrow your results search box on the results page. Enter another keyword or two about what you are looking for and click Go. Only items containing your original and new keywords will be returned. For example, if you entered "valve," try adding "fill" in the Narrow Your Results box and clicking Go. Your results will have items that contain both terms.
You can click on individual pages to move through your results. The number of selections and pages are shown in the grey band below the header. The section you are viewing is listed to the left of the pages, under your location. Or, you can you can also use the Narrow Your Results option.
GEC TIP - When searching for products we recommend using a partial description or partial part number. Re: Using "Fill" will return more products such as 'fill valve' whereas using 'filler' may not find all the products using that detailed description.
