Today's regulator.....

..was NOT your Grandfather's regulator!

An Economic & Performance Comparison of RegO
2-Stage vs. Integral Regulators

 regulators

When selecting regulators there are several topics to consider:
  Regulator Pricing
  Regulator Sizing
  Regulator Performance
  Distribution System Performance
  Inventory Reduction Opportunities
  Warranty / Pedigree
  Distributor & Manufacturer Support, Knowledge & Experience

Let's compare costs of Integral vs. 2-Stage regulators:

Traditional Integral
    LV404B46 = $47.99 (525,000 Btuh)
    LV404B96 = $46.35 (525,000 Btuh)
2-Stage Option
    LV3403TR = $22.52 (1,500,000 Btuh)
    LV3403B4 = $20.97 (450,000 Btuh)

The 2-Stage option has a LOWER total cost ($43.49); being more than 9% more economical than an integral regulator.

Let's look at an average integral regulator installation:
    Furnace: 120,000
    Water Heater: 35,000
    Range: 65,000
    Clothes Dryer: 30,000

TOTAL LOAD: 250,000

On an Integral installation; What is "LONGEST RUN"?  (the distance from the regulator outlet to the furthest appliance.  Pick a number; in our example let's say the tank is 30 feet from the home.  Or the tank is against the building with 30 feet of piping inside the house to the furthest appliance (longest run).

Traditionally if a 5/8" copper line is used for the yard line or is the longest run, it will carry only 114,000 BTUH.  It won't even meet the needs of our example of 250,000 BTUH.  And closer to reality, it will probably flow only 78,000 BTUH to the appliances when calculating longest run.

So why do you need an LV404B96 or LV404B46 regulator with a higher cost?  The answer is you don't; and I will discuss why.

Number one, it will probably be restricted by the yard line capacity of your system.

That same 30' yard line if run with a 2-stage system could handle 1,303,000 BTUH (1,100+% more than the integral), which allows the dealer to save even more by going to a smaller yard line.  Even 3/8" copper @ 10psig will supply almost 3 times (309,000 BTUH) the capacity of the 5/8" line on an integral regulator.

Let's compare cost of regulators, yard line, & fittings. (30' to house):
Example 1:  Total Cost: $94.75 @ 114,000 Btuh
    LV404B96
    5/8" Copper
Example 2: Total Cost: $110.76 @ 935,000 Btuh
    LV4403TR9/LV4403B46
    5/8" Copper
Example 3:  Total Cost: $69.62 @ 309,000 Btuh
    LV3403TR/LV3403B4:
    3/8" Copper

Just by 2-staging your system we have already saved 30% in costs and increased the capacity by nearly 300%.  With modifying your regulator inventory we can save you an additional 17%.  If you are old school; you probably stock 3 models of regulators 1-high pressure, 1-second stage, and 1-integral.  If you stocked 10 of each and were using the traditional models, your inventory would be: $1,099.50.  But, if you would switch to alternative sizes better suited for your installations you could save even more.  Let's split the 30 regulators into the standard large and compact at 5 of each.  Your inventory is now only $917.10, A savings of $182.40 or 17%.

Plus, with using smaller yard lines for 2-stage systems, the reduction of overhead of installation equipment inventory is even greater. (Let's assume 10 rolls copper only)
    5/8" $ 650.10
    1/2" $ 476.10 27% Savings (for states prohibiting 3/8" lines)
    3/8" $ 347.50 47% Savings

How Many ways can RegO Regulators save you money and provide exceptional value?
   1. Warranty (10 Years)
   2. Service Life (25 Years)
   3. Made in America (w/ 16 other American manufacturers)
   4. Better Economy
   5. Better Performance
   6. Reduced regulator inventory costs
   7. Reduced installation equipment costs

And now, RegO has introduced new compact Integral regulators with lower costs and increased capacities.  Check out the LV404B34/39 regulators for even more savings on integral installations.

"Did You Know?"

....the 2011 edition of NFPA 58, section 1.3.2 Nonapplication of Code paragraph (11); excludes the LP-Gas Code application for propane vehicle fuel dispensers located at multiple fuel refueling stations.  Propane vehicle fuel dispensers located at multi-fuel stations shall comply with NFPA 30A, Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages.

The text of 1.3.2(11) was revised in the 2011 edition to clarify that the exclusion applies only to propane vehicle fuel dispensers, and not to dispensers filling only portable cylinders at service stations.

This exclusion recognizes that two NFPA codes cannot cover the same installations. In previous editions of NFPA 58 and NFPA 30A there were conflicting spacing requirements.  NFPA notes that if propane is the only vehicle fuel dispensed, NFPA 58 is the applicable

document.

Most of the information on the installation and placement of LP-Gas dispensing equipment is found in Chapter 12 of NFPA 30A.  NFPA 30A excludes propane dispensing located at least 50ft from any other aboveground motor fuel storage or dispensing equipment and refers back to NFPA 58 for such applications.  This referral back to NFPA 58 recognizes that where sufficient separation exists, propane dispensing equipment should come under NFPA 58 and not NFPA 30A.

Also in NFPA 58, 2011 Edition

New section 5.2.1.5 prohibits ASME containers of 3000 gallon water capacity or less  used to store anhydrous ammonia from being converted to LP-Gas fuel service.
