2011 Employment Expo

Wow, what a day we had! It is hard to believe the Employment Expo is over for 2011.

The Job Seekers showed everyone what they were made of. We were thrilled to hear comments from many of the Employers who had exhibit booths about the quality of the job seekers that came to the Expo. The Job Seekers brought their resumes, came with questions and were truly interested in pursuing future employment with the various companies. Similarly, several exhibitors commented on how professionally and effectively the job developers, who sometimes accompanied job seekers, conducted themselves.

Our thanks to Gold Sponsor - Cargill Limited and also to Silver Sponsors - Manitoba Civil Service Commission, Community Futures Manitoba - Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program and Manitoba Family Services and Community Affairs.

We had 39 Exhibitors and 13 Partners. Not bad for a first year event! Next year promises to be even bigger and better.

Breakfast attendees were treated to the keynote address, Will Hope and History Rhyme? by Randy Lewis of Walgreen's, followed by the packed seminar -  Taking Pride in That Which Sets Us Apart by Shayn Anderson and the wonderful words of Denise Bissonnette, on the topic Creating an Inclusive Workplace.

The workshops were outstanding - Nuts & Bots of Supported Employment, Disclosing Your Disability in the Job Search Process, Your Own Business: Self Employment and Entrepreneurship and Tools of the NEW Trade: How to Meet the Needs of Your Customers with Disabilities.

People were able to sit and view several videos:

  • A Hire Awareness
  • An NBC News Story about Randy Lewis and Walgreens
  • This Place Changes Everything
  • Talent Knows No Limit
  • Open Futures - Employees with Disabilities
