Rest Area Commercialization Fails

The Senate has finalized the $109 billion highway reauthorization bill, known as the "Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act of 2011" or "MAP-21".

 

Included in the Act was the strongly opposed Portman Amendment which would have allowed states to commercialize rest areas. Retailers across the country sent a strong message to Congress that the amendment would have killed small businesses and it would not produce additional revenue for states.  The message that choosing government interests over small businesses was simply bad public policy has been heard, and the amendment failed 74-22.

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has recently updated its gift card regulations in the ongoing attempt to thwart money laundering, terrorist financiers and other financial crimes. Please become familiar with the following regulation changes and how they will affect the sale of ExxonMobil Gift Cards in your store

  • No station can sell more than $10,000.00 in gift cards to a single person in a single day.
  • No station can reload more than $2,000.00 onto a single gift card in a single day.
